My mother was Hispanic, an immigrant living in Sherman, Texas back in 1963. My father was an Anglo, who took off when he found out she was pregnant. So, an immigrant mother, and an Anglo father - that makes me...well, I'll be blunt. I'm an American. Not Mexican-American, not Hispanic-American. A non-hyphenated American, plain and simple. These people who make it a point of pride to have a hyphen in front of the word American really tick me off.
You'll note she didn't say mexican-American - just mexican.
