KEARNS, Utah - Chad Hedrick set a world record in the 10,000 meters at the U.S. long track speedskating championships Saturday.
He won the 25-lap race in 12 minutes, 55.11 seconds, bettering the old mark by nearly 3 seconds.
Hedrick had predicted he would break the mark of 12:57.92 set by Dutchman Carl Verheijen at a World Cup meet earlier this month in the Netherlands.
The 28-year-old Texan finished second to Verheijen in that race.
14:28.13 was Eric Heiden's then record back in 1980.
That works out to about six miles at about 29 MPH. A four-minute mile would only be 15 MPH. Hm... better him than me.
Appears Mr. Hedrick is peaking at the right time!
