Kern County teacher accused of lewd acts with 12 year old student

BUTTONWILLOW, Calif. (AP) - Kern County authorities arrested a teacher today on charges that she had a sexual relationship with one of her 12-year-old students.

Authorities say Sherry Brians, a 41-year-old teacher at Buttonwillow School, had been under investigation since before Christmas.

The 12-year-old boy's mother went to authorities after finding a letter in her son's backpack that indicated the two had a romantic and physical relationship at the school.

Another in a spate of such stories. The TV news showed a pic, but it is not on their web page. She's 41 and he's 12. This seems to be one of the more extreme age spreads with his age of 12 being exceptionally young.

As far as I can tell the school is an elementary through 8th grade public school, the only one in Buttonwillow. Stats I found via google indicate the grades have very few students with about three dozen each in 7th and 8th. This victim is going to have a very tough time.

Sounds like the kind of situation a pedophile would be attracted to. I hope she doesn't fall through the cracks in the system which places an over-emphasis on female victims and male perps. Assuming the allegation true, she needs to do serious time and never be placed in any position of authority nor involved with children.
