Pelosi: 'This Economy Is Not Delivering for Middle-Class Families'
House Democratic Leader ^

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 06, 2006

CONTACT: Brendan Daly/Jennifer Crider 202-226-7616 Pelosi: ‘This Economy Is Not Delivering for Middle-Class Families’

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to President Bush’s speech in Chicago this afternoon on the economy:

“The President claims he has created a strong economy, but working Americans are telling a different story. They feel the American dream slipping further from their grasp and they know the reality is that this economy is not delivering for middle-class families. The Bush Administration's call for another round of tax cuts for the wealthy few when middle-class families are struggling to pay their bills is another example of misplaced Republican priorities.

“This is the first generation where parents are worried that their children will not do better than they did. The President should not brag about the strength of the economy while middle-class families continue to fall further behind.

“Middle-class Americans’ paychecks are flat or dropping, while health care costs continue to rise and home heating costs are skyrocketing. U.S. trade deficits and the borrowing from China to fund tax cuts will have real and harsh impacts on future generations. Recent news about cuts in workers’ pay and insecurity about their pensions is also increasing the economic concerns of the American people. And yet the Bush Administration is cheerleading policies that help the wealthy while doing nothing to address these fundamental problems.”

This is the first generation where parents are worried that their children will not do better than they did.

Haven't the Dems been saying this since the days of Jimmy Carter?

I swear, if Ms. Pelosi saw Christ walk on the water, her press release tomorrow would be titled "Christ Can't Swim!"

Middle-class Americans’ paychecks are flat or dropping...

Her solution - raise taxes, increase entitlement programs, and increase federal spending.

I think they are worried about Johnny living in the basement and wearing all those stupid Goth clothes and dropping X all night. Maybe that is why Johnny won't do as well as his parents

Perhaps Nancy would like to Unionize the workers on her various properties to ensure they get more benefits and high wages! Or, better yet, donate her Congressional Salary to the middle class she speaks of.

LOLOLOL! OK, Nancy. I'm sure no other generation has ever had that concern... Didn't you ever talk to your grandfather about the Depression?

So let's see:

1) Unemployment is at 4.9%.

2) More people own their own homes than anytime in our nation's history.

3) Financing a home costs less of the average worker's monthly paycheck than at any time in our nation's history.

4) Even the poor own color televisions, CD players, cell phones, cars, washers, dryers, microwaves, etc.

5) People have more spare time for their hobbies than ever before in our nation's history.

And Nancy Pelosi is claiming that the middle class is falling behind and unhappy?

Sorry, Nan, but my wife voluntarily quit working last August and we're doing fine. Thanks for asking, though.

Why do we have all time record homeownership, then?

And rising home values in most parts of the country have increased the net worth of all of those homeowners, too.

And Christmas spending turned out better than expected. Internet spending was way up.

Not only that, but you can save on insurance at GEICO.

And soon have a new version of Windows: VISTA

What a great country.
