This image provided by NASA shows the nucleus of comet Wild 2, taken by the navigation camera during the close-approach phase of NASA'S Stardust spacecraft on Jan. 2, 2004, during a flyby of the comet. The Stardust's round-trip, interstellar rendezvous to comet Wild 2 draws to a close Jan. 15, 2006, when the spacecraft jettisons a canister containing comet grains through the Earth's fiery atmosphere to the high Utah desert. And its landing at Dugway is just a coincidence, nothing to do with Andromeda Strain.

Residents in parts of Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah should see the Stardust capsule as it streaks across the pre-dawn sky. Great. Seems like the last peculiar spacecraft to traverse the pre-dawn sky was the remnants of Columbia.

Jose Jimenez: I am convinced that they will get me back to Earth!.......Just how far into it....that's what I'm not convinced about.

Framegrab from NASA television shows scientists approaching the Stardust comet capsule after it landed safely in the Utah desert. "Stardust" safely returned to Earth carrying precious samples of dust from stars and comets that could offer vital clues about the solar system's origins.(AFP/NASA-HO)

Ron Ceeders, a Lockheed Martin technician, unbolts a canister containing comet dust from the Stardust capsule in a clean room Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah. Mud cakes the exterior of the capsule from it's landing in the desert. The seven-year project collected particles from a comet. (AP Photo/Douglas C. Pizac)
