"Duke" Cunningham was the Eddie Rickenbacker of the Vietnam War and now this scandal is what he will be remembered for.
It's a sad situation."

It totally sucks. I havent gone to the San Diego Aerospace museum to see if they took his name off the F-4 in the museum or not.

The shock was who who was, not what he did. We expect to be let down by politicians. Not by heros.

Lt. Cunningham was no more a hero as a member of the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club than the rest of the Carrier Jocks that night after night did their thing in route Packages 6 Alfa And Bravo.

He just happened to be a Phantom Driver who was in the right place at the right time. Billy Phillips could fly rings around Cunningham, one handed.

Adm. Moorer and Commodore Swede Vetejeh implemented Top Gun at Miramar -- not because of Cunningham's successes, but because we were so lacking in the sustained practice of close-in air combat. (I know this personally.)

If you want to talk about heroes, speak of Jerry Denton and Jim Stockdale, not this "dumber than a brick" pimp, who despoiled the Naval Service by his unconscionable acts.

Toss Cunningham's wife into the garbage can as well. She failed the test -- as a sordid accomplice. Pox on their house!
