Sopranos star charged with murder

A STAR of the mega-hit Sopranos TV drama, Lillo Brancato, has appeared in a New York court facing a murder charge.

Brancato, 29, and co-defendant Steven Armento, 48, were charged with second-degree murder over the death of an off-duty police officer last month. Mr Armento, who allegedly pulled the trigger, was also charged with first-degree murder.

Brancato entered the court in handcuffs as dozens of police officers and media looked on, Associated Press reported.

Both men have denied the charges.

The parents of the victim, Daniel Enchautegui, attended the proceedings in the Bronx court.

According to the police case, Mr Enchautegui stumbled across Brancato and Armento as they were trying to break into an apartment in search of prescription drugs. Police say Brancato has said Mr Armento opened fire after Mr Enchautegui ordered them to freeze, AP said.

Brancato's lawyer Mel Sachs said outside the court that his client did not known Mr Armento was packing a firearm, so could not be responsible for the alleged murder.

"Lillo Brancato is not a murderer," Brancato's lawyer, Mel Sachs, said as he left the courthouse with the defendant's family. "Lillo Brancato is not criminally responsible. Lillo Brancato did not have a weapon and did not know there was a weapon."

A buddy of mine helped an acquaintance haul a car that he bought. A sheriff pulled them over, he got the ID of the towee, and as he turned to approach the truck, the guy shot the cop deader than a hammer. The perp jumped in the truck and pointed the gun at my friend and said DRIVE M***** F*****!!! He drove.....When he got rid of the guy, dropped him off at his house, he went to the cop shop and reported the crime. He was only 18 YO, still in HS...didn't matter that he didn't know the guy was armed, or crazy. Served 10 years, got off on good behaviour.

Being with someone that kills a cop, is a whole different ballgame, than robbing a 7/11 and something going wrong....both will and should get some serious time. I had lunch with him the week he got out, he wouldn't cross into the county he lived his entire childhood in, he was afraid of the cops and the friends of the man that killed the cop.

And if he's gulty and we're lucky, he'll get whacked again in about 25 years. If we're real lucky perhaps it will be far less than 25 years.

Hi All-

You're in big trouble now, Calogero! Sonny doesn't stand for that kind of nonsense. Jane will have nothing to do with you now, C!

The flaming Liberal NYS Assembly just passed their whole gun control package of bills today in honor of this scum and his boyfriend and what they did. Not that the Liberals needed it for an excuse.

Now it's once again up to law abiding gun owners in NYS to take it on the chin. Hopefully we can head this garbage legislation off yet again.

I loved the movie A BRONX TALE, and this kid was great in it. What a shame. I stumbled across this thread in hopes of finding a Sopranos thread for the first two episodes of this season. I guess I'll keep looking!

Hi Hildy-

This young knucklehead kid couldn't tell the difference between truth and Hollywood fiction. He is whacking or getting whacked in real life! You're right, it was a great movie and a solid "double-duty" performance by Robert DeNiro since he was on both sides of the camera.

It was a horrible story, it seemed so pointless too. This guy was out of prison for about 15 years, and I heard he was arrested for statutory rape? Not sure, but he was dating a 16 YO? Makes you wonder was he stupid, or was he warped. I know that he was "harassed" sexually in prison, as you would not be surprised to hear. It is just one of those cases where you wonder what would have been, or if he was not such an innocent 18 years. Of course that is the skeptic talking, I choose to believe that prison should be a controlled environment, they should use physical punishment of some kind, to the predators that rape other prisoners, maybe the death penalty(really applied) to those that can't even get along within a confined area.
