This statement may not be true. According to what I've been able to gather on the Internet, which is not very much so far, The Owl Club and other "Final Clubs" at Harvard were forced to admit women in 1984, but they refused to and privatized instead. Therefore, The Owl may still be male only.

I'm still digging to see when and if they admitted their first African-American member. Given the timeframe of Kennedy's association with the club and the desegregation movement of the 60's, one can safely assume that we'll find even more controversy there. Kennedy stepped in it and he's going to get it all over himself.

Let's not lose sight of what's important here. The objective is to get a good, solid conservative appointed to the Supreme Court. If judge Alito has to submit himself to such abuse then so be it. I'd rather he sit through a few days of Democratic self-flagillation than make self-defeating comebacks that would sink his nomination.
