It's okay in Kennedy's case, because no one except the people of Massachusetts would ever put Ted in a position of responsibility.

"No one can question (your favorite liberal's name here)...

That's how it was in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s. But guess what Laura, not any more. The internet is winning. Already the cold hands of irrelevancy make you bitter and useless. ha ha ha ha . . .

The Kennedys are like the Bonapartes. They believe they are owed something by the country.

The woman of Harvard that were excluded from this club during Teddy's time really should not complain as their exclusion may have kept them alive.

Does anyone know if Ted's membership in this group ended when he was thrown out of Harvard for cheating?

I bet you dollars to donuts that Kennedy or one of his close relatives is a member of an exclusive club that doesn't allow blacks in.

Of course we must stand up for and state our beliefs. But there is a time and a place for everything and these confirmation hearings are NOT the place for "gotcha" comebacks. That's self-defeatist and does no good.

I never said the goal was confirmation and all else must be suppressed. My point was that it's not Alito's place to respond 'in kind'. It's up to the GOP to reply to these unwarranted and despicable attacks.

I just read something that says his membership in this club was "scrubbed" a few years ago. Why was it scrubbed? Did he ask to have it done? Did the club decide that it would be better for the club if it didn't have him as a former member? Perhaps a relative of Mary Jo joined the club or they stopped selling waitress sandwiches?

Anyone know if he in fact was "scrubbed" from the membership and why was it done?

I guess we just have a friendly FR disagreement on this bcsco. The GOP (99% RINO) plays the same game of CYA rather than telling it like it is. In my opinion it certainly is Alito's place to respond (or Bork or pick your favorite judge) as he was the one being attacked by kennedy using "guilt by association".

Both of us have valid points so I'll leave it at that. Cheers.

A disagreement perhaps in procedure, not subject by any means.

I agree the GOP has been too silent and has strayed from their base over the past 10-12 years. But part of that is our fault for not holding them to their promises and commitments.

Part of the problem is the GOP base is too passive when it comes to politicking. We need to get over that and hold our representative's feet to the fire.
