PAPER: Sen. Kennedy was member of all-male club Wed Jan 11 2006 22:40:10 ET
Conservative activists are eager to point out that Sen Ted Kennedy was on shaky ground accusing the Judge Alito of associating with people opposed to the inclusion of women in private institutions, the WASHINGTON TIMES is fronting on Thursday.
The eight-term senator belonged to an all-male social club -- the Owl -- at Harvard University. The Owl refused to admit women until it was forced to do so during the 1980s, according to records kept by the HARVARD CRIMSON, the student newspaper.
A Kennedy spokeswoman said it was an entirely different matter.
"No one can question Senator Kennedy's commitment to equality, justice and civil rights," said Laura Capps. "What he was part of was a social club, not a radical group pushing a radical agenda."
Anyway, she said, even though women were admitted to the university during Mr. Kennedy's tenure, they weren't fully integrated to the campus until much later.

Alito DID NOT belong to any of the men only clubs at Princeton but he did belong to a group that argued those clubs had a right to be men only.
Teddy DID BELONG to a men only club but we must assume that he would never have argued that the club had a right to set it's own rules so of course we can NEVER EVER "question his comitment to equality".
Oh, I see...
Pay no attention to the may behind the screen...

Too bad none of these senators will dirty their white gloves bringing up this little tidbit.

Wow what length will these people go to, to attack the honorable Senator Kennedy!
Next thing you know, they'll be calling him a murderer or accuse him of sexually assaulting a waitress or something!

It's hilarious how lifeguard Teddy can infer someone prejudiced but when caught doing the same thing, it was different, it didn't apply to him. Puke, puke, puke.

Senator Byrd should be particularly outraged since even the Klan allowed woman members.

The club may have been all-male perhaps, but obviously not all-Man.

Besides belonging to a gender excluding club, (as I understand it) Teddy paid a male student take his Spanish exam for him at Harvard. To me that raises serious question whethher Teddy believes in gender equality cheating, breaking honor codes, and purpetrating academic fraud.

"No one can question Senator Kennedy's commitment to equality, justice and civil rights,"
Let's play the "get Alito" game with this...
That's what he says and tries to do now... but what about then? Isn't this proof that Ted Kennedy did not accept women as equals? And if he did so then what is he really thinking now? Does he really, really respect women or is it just how he acts to get political capital with democrat supporters? We know that he has been caught in a "sandwich" with a woman (Chris Dodd being the other slice and the woman being the "Meat")in a Washington Restaurant. We know he was caught semi-exposing himself to young women at the family "compound" in Palm Beach. Aren't these the true Ted Kennedy and not the man who pretends to support woman rather than use them...
Great game isn't it? And I didn't even get to Mary Jo or his his first wife that he ran around on all the time...

When Teddy was there, Harvard was all male. The neighboring Radcliffe was all female.

NO, I was the one being sexually assaulted!!!

Oh yeah! This guys a real winner and a deep intellect!
he was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and once for paying a classmate to cheat for him. While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two. His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, then U.S. Ambassador to England, pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea, where a war was raging. Kennedy was assigned to Paris, never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged.
While attending law school at the University of Virginia, he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with his headlights off after dark. Yet his Virginia driver's license was never revoked. He passed the bar exam in 1959, and two years later was appointed an Assistant to the District Attorney in Massachusetts' Suffolk County

As much as I dislike the Mass-Hole Lard Bucket, one scrap of info here is incorrect. Joseph P. Kennedy had resigned as Ambassador in 1940 when FDR grew tired of his siding with the Nazis - an interesting story on its own.
