Democrats Tap Kaine for State of Union Duty
Roll Call ^ | 1/19/06 | Erin Billings

National Democratic leaders today will ask Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine (D) to deliver the party’s response to the president’s State of the Union address, believing that the new governor can best deliver their 2006 message of inclusiveness, American values and high ethical standards. Sources said that Senate and House Minority Leaders Harry Reid (Nev.) and Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who chairs the Democratic Governors’ Association, plan to call Kaine today to offer him the assignment. Kaine was sworn in as Virginia’s governor last weekend, succeeding fellow Democrat Mark Warner, under whom he served as lieutenant governor.

“Gov. Kaine has proven that his message can win in a predominantly Republican state that George Bush carried twice,” said one Senate Democratic aide. “Having him speak about the Democratic agenda and our vision for 2006 after the president’s State of the Union address is obvious.”

A Democratic House aide called choosing Kaine “a no-brainer,” adding that the new governor also provides a fresh face for a party running on a message of change and reform….

Neither Reid nor Pelosi’s office would confirm Wednesday that Kaine is their choice. But Democratic sources said Kaine has won the leaders’ endorsement, and they expect him to accept the invitation to respond to President Bush when he lays out his agenda before a joint session of Congress on Jan. 31. Kaine, who would deliver the response from Richmond, is expected to talk about Democratic Party values, its broad appeal, its ability to keep the country safe and secure and its desire to clean up government and end corruption.

Delacey Skinner, Kaine’s spokeswoman, this week said she couldn’t comment about the prospect of her boss delivering the address because he has yet to be asked to take on the task. But Skinner added that the governor “would certainly consider it an honor to be asked and address the nation.”

I like it. Having a die-hard lib like Kaine respond to the President is the perfect way to convince the American people that the RAT party is moving to the center.

Maybe he'll get into the part where he doesn't want to build any more houses until he gets the roads built, and vice versa.

This guy is a limousine liberal of the worst sort. Why he's here instead of Maryland I will never know. Guess he lost his way on I-70.

Except for the fact that Kaine portrays himself and is portrayed in the media as a "moderate," "centrist," and "Southern" Democrat.

The easy part is that the Democrat response has already been written for a while.

"Southern" Democrat.

That's hilarious. He's from Kansas.

Kaine has been Governor of Virginia for a week. And he is the poster child of the DNC to deliver the State of the Union rebuttal. I am seriously loving their desperation.

Even more, I am loving the DNC's transparency. By putting up Kaine as the Rebutter, they are admitting they have NOBODY in their ranks to serve them proud as a Rebutter.

They are trying desperately to repackage themselves, but have no spokesman, other than a 1 week tenured Governor to do it. Perhaps that's because having a 1 week record as a Democrat Governor doesn't give you enough time to show your true agenda. You can be anything the voters want you to be!

Yes, but that doesn't mean the snow job is working. Its like John Kerry trying to run as a moderate. You can put all the make-up on him you want; that doesn't make him a moderate, it makes him a lipstick-covered liberal.

A Democratic House aide called choosing Kaine “a no-brainer,”

Well, Kaine is definitely a no-brainer.

What's amazing is that the RATS are stoopid enough to believe that Kaine's win represents their "comeback."

Kaine may be boring but the DNC has to love him...he hadn't been sworn in a week before we started seeing tax increase proposals from the general assembly...this in spite of a state surplus obtained through deceit by the ex-governor; Mark Warner. (Which brings up the question 'why isn't Warner going to give the Dem response?'...maybe he isn't on the DNC bigwig 'A-list'.)

My husband nearly drove off the side of the Chincoteague causeway yesterday when I told him about this. He was laughing so hard he couldn't see where he was going :)

No matter who they would choose number one we wouldn't watch it and number two they are all liars so...anyone would suffice. We'll watch the State of the Union and then shut it off so as not to have to listen to all the know it alls disecting the President's speech. We CAN think for ourselves.

If Kaine is the best the democRATS have, it only proves that they are as stupid as the people of Virginia who elected Kaine.

This gives a new meaning to "Stuck on Stupid" !!

One of the few good things to come out of Katrina was General Honore's 'Stuck on Stupid'observation...it fits the Democrats perfectly. The acronym 'SOS' also fits and should become shorthand for the party just as GOP is shorthand for the Republicans.
