It was important for Israel to draw a line and get its people on the safe side of that line. It was also important to get out of the day-to-day management of arabs.

Only Israel could decide where to draw that line, but it was important that she draw it, and she's done that.

Now it is important that the arabs know there is a price to pay each and every time an attack is launched across that line. Simply killing the attackers isn't enough. You have to exact a price in territory. Each rocket, each suicide attacker who manages to get across the line must be answered by moving the line a few hundred yards. Any houses or buildings affected must be bull-dozed.

Any arab residents affected by moving the line must be compensated and expelled. Israel must never again make the mistake of trying to govern arabs. Keep arabs on the arab side of the line.

It has to be made clear to any and all that attacks equal a loss of land, every time.

Close, but not quite. Israel was playing *really* high-level poker, and the so-called Palestinians lost bad.

The Palis scream that they must have Gaza. Okay, says Israel, you can have Gaza. It's yours to govern as you see fit. Now, the world sees that Israel took a unilateral step to meet a major Pali demand, and that the Palis are incapable of self-governance.

Every rocket attack from inside Gaza is shown to the rest of the world as "see, we gave them what they asked for, and still they attack." Every attack from inside Gaza erodes worldwide support for the Palis, but the Palis are too stupid to realize it.

No Palestinian can claim Israeli oppression any more. They can't call it a vengeance attack because the IDF supposedly killed some poor Palestinian boy. The Israelis have forced the Palestinians into showing their *true* demand, the abolition of the Israeli state. Even the UN Charter gives states the right of self-defense. The Israelis are setting it up to destroy the Palestinians once and for all, and the Palis are too blinded by their own hatred to feel the noose tightening around their own necks.

The problem with your little fiction is that Israel withdrew unilaterly and there is no safe side as the bombing in Tel Aviv last week proved.

Also Israel need not keep day to day management of any Arabs but only keep the area secured.

Notwithstanding, by your definition, Israel continues to maintain management of these same arabs because the World insists Israel provide many of them with employment.

Finally even if your first part was legitimate as the carrot, then the second part, the stick, should also be valid.

But your second part is pure fantasy.

In sum Israel surrenders for no gain and plenty of potential loss.
