Cagle gains on Reed in poll

Ralph's Reed's campaign for lieutenant governor is losing momentum, a statewide poll released Wednesday shows.

Reed's lead over State Sen. Casey Cagle for the Republican nomination has eroded. And, for the first time, more GOP voters view Reed unfavorably than favorably.

The survey by Strategic Vision LLC of Atlanta was taken Jan. 20-22 in the aftermath of corruption-related guilty pleas by lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Are you guys kidding me?! How much money has Cagle raised? This Abramof thing is not going anywhere re: Reed.

Reed has raised almost $2 million in campaign contribution, shattering all previous fundraising records by a non-incumbent Lt. Gubernatorial candidate in the state’s history. Reed enters 2006 with the largest fundraising advantage in a primary ever for a candidate for Lt. Governor. Reed’s lead is significant because no one has won the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor who did not raise the most funds in the year prior to the election.

I'm tired of the styandard "He raised the most money, he wins"

I don't think Reed's gonna make it to November.

But I was wrong about Cain also. Always the optimist I guess.

That's O.K. - optimism is good - before this Abramof chink in the armor, I would have said there's no way Reed loses the primary. I still think the money advantage has to be the deciding factor but anything's possible in politics - hopefully Abramof doesn't name Reed as the anti-Christ - previous year-end financial advantages by fundraising leaders were $91,392 in 2001 and $167,219 in 1997. Your guy's got his work cut out for him.

Speaking of which, is Cagle a good pro-life Christian - honestly, that's all I care about - I know he touts his "conservative" background, but so does Reed. But, if he's a good Christian too, how is Cagle going to stand out? Casey Cagle His $1.8 million total gives him a financial advantage over his primary opponent of $510,175.

Sorry - that last sentence was not supposed to be there - that was the year-end Reed campaign contribution totals.

2002:

Roy Barnes: 20 million
Sonny Perdue: 1.5 million

It's votes, not money, that wins elections.

Of course "votes" win - is Cagle a good pro-life Christian?

I don't know anything about Cagle. But Ralph Reed is about as much a "good Christian" as Osama is a "good Muslim".

The Fast Rise and Steep Fall of Jack Abramoff
How a Well-Connected Lobbyist Became the Center of a Far-Reaching Corruption Scandal

By Susan Schmidt and James V. Grimaldi
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, December 29, 2005; Page A01

A quarter of a century ago, Abramoff and anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist were fellow Young Turks of the Reagan revolution. They organized Massachusetts college campuses in the 1980 election -- Abramoff while he was an undergraduate at Brandeis and Norquist at Harvard Business School -- to help Ronald Reagan pull an upset in the state.

They moved to Washington, maneuvered to take over the College Republicans -- at the time a sleepy establishment organization -- and transformed it into a right-wing activist group. They were joined by Ralph Reed, an ambitious Georgian whose later Christian conversion would fuel his rise to national political prominence.

Soon they made headlines with such tactics as demolishing a mock Berlin Wall in Lafayette Park, where they also burned a Soviet leader in effigy. "We want to shock them," Abramoff told The Post at the time.[snip]

Wow, this stuff makes me like Abramoff. You'd never get hit pieces like this on the guys Clinton engaged in dirty dealings with.

He sounds like he hates commies. Way to go, Jack.

I don't know anything about Cagle . . .

That's all I needed to know - I've met Ralph Reed personally and believe he is a "good, pro-life Christian" - see you later.
