I rarely have time to post these days, but this oncoming tragedy just burns my butt! To have these arrogant assholes recommend banning these poor-man's inhalers when we have sunscreen to compensate for the little bit of added uv that results is the height of social irresponsibility! The CFC bans have probably negatively hurt developing countries, but I think that overall, they were worth it. However, THIS crap is going too far!

PING! This recommendation is unconscionable. These delusional nutcases need to read State of Fear before they have anything more to do with the regulatory process.

They wish to ban an over the counter product in favor of a much more expensive prescription-only product. Sure sounds like some of the healthcare monstrosity that Hillary has been working for since she was President a decade ago.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. It's absolute stupidity on the part of regulating agencies.
Wyeth says it needs until 2009 or 2010 to have a substitute, which itself must be approved by the FDA, for over-the-counter use.
Duh, Wyeth, have you ever heard of Albuterol?

My husband has Asthma and -- thank goodness -- we control it with Singulair and homeopathics, but during monsoon season he does have to use the occasional inhaler and these people evidentally don't understand that asthma is a life-threatening disease and people -- children included -- die from asthma attacks.

The "Hole" in the ozone layer is a natural occurrence due to the earths magnetic field ionizing ozone on the earths magnetic poles. The "Hole" did not just appear but was discovered when satellites became sensitive enough to detect it. So this "Hole" has been there for billions of years, and humans have nothing to do with it. Also remember that ozone is considered a pollutant by enviormentalists and we banned ozone generating products as well in the 1970's. Virtually all enviormental issues having nothing to do with the enviorment and everything to do with socialism.

Okay, I say all those who want to do this can have their suggestions seriously considered AFTER they have their air supplies restricted to about 10% for 120 consecutive minutes. Then maybe they'll have a slight idea of what asthma feels like.
The environs are probably the most successful mass murderers on the planet. They have killed literally millions with the successful banning of DDT. They are probably more dangerous overall that any terrorists we face.

"other aerosols that use recently developed propellants currently not deemed to present environmental problems."
What's the problem?

Jeez.
For the first time in over 10 years, I had to break down and go to the drug store to get one of these inhalers, because I could not stop wheezing after a brisk, two mile hike on Wednesday.
I rarely buy these things, but it made the difference for me of wheezing, staying up all night and calling my doctor, or getting a good nights rest (and oxygen.)
CFC's, the FDA, and these environazi's be damned.

propane could be used as a propellant

I can only assume that most of these folks have never had the feeling that pallet of bricks was parked over their chest. Drugs have come a long way since my first memory of an asthma attack in 1956. Here's hoping the same tx can be packaged without CFCs.

It's just another step towards national health insurance: 'These poor people can't afford to go to the doctor to get a prescription for their inhalers...'

Hey the war on drugs is a good thing, Right? This is just another case of your knows-much-better-than-you-do nanny state deciding what is permissible for you to use. This time its the ozone layer but they don't need a reason, they have the authority to ban any substance they decide is bad for you. or bad for them if you use it.

Ecoterrorist ping. I guess those of us who would suffocate but for modern medicine, are genetically inferior and deserve to die. Eugenics 101.

Oh Goodie the eco-morons have already taken the Nasacort inhaler off the market. The alternative is the nasal spray version going down the throat wasted and not nearly as effective.

I've had asthma for 30 years and always used Primatene until the doctors got a hold of me. They had me on so many medications and inhalers I needed a goody bag to carry it all around. And my asthma got worse, couldn't even get off the couch without wheezing. I finally threw it all in the trash, went out and bought my Primatene and it's controlled it just fine. I only use it about once or twice a month now and I haven't had an attack in over 10 years, except for three aspirin induced attacks.
When you have a beast crouching on your chest, sucking all your air away, you could care less about the ozone layer.
