A Defeat for Anti-Americanism

Saturday, January 28, 2006; Page A20

ACCORDING TO his opponent, Canadian Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper exposed "an agenda really drawn from the extreme right in the United States." He favored the Iraq war, opposed the Kyoto treaty on global warming, and is a social conservative to boot. He might just become -- heaven forbid -- "the most pro-American leader in the Western world." His victory would -- O, Canada! -- "put a smile on George W. Bush's face." Despite all those scary warnings, Mr. Harper and his party won Canada's election on Monday. That put an end to 12 years of increasingly incoherent and corrupt rule by the Liberal Party -- as well as the cynical and irresponsible attempt of its leader, outgoing Prime Minister Paul Martin, to use anti-Americanism.

My only question is, WHO on the staff of the Washington Post, hacked into the Washington Times and obviously ripped off this reasonable, fairly conservative editorial piece and published it in the Post?

As for Paul Martin and his failed LIEberal Party, he wisely resigned and stated he would not "lead" (word used loosely) his Party into another election, and that was only because he knew he was about 48 hours from being denounced and jettisoned as the titular head of the Liberal Party.

And somewhere, Martin's former boss, the Little Dictator Jean Chretien is laughing his ass off, because it is no secret that Martin and Chretien despised each other.

When the Wash Post puts its mind to it, it can still deliver an insult with the best of them.

IMO the Wash Post is slowly turning. Slow, yes. But recall that the NY Times kicked them out of the IHT joint venture.

There is an evolutionary split among the MSM dinosaurs. Time will tell if the Wash Post will avoid the tar pit that the Times currently finds itself in. But we do see that the Wash Post understands that tar pits are out there.

My guess is Sebastion Mallaby, who is on the WP editorial board and wrote this gem:
'Progressive Wal-Mart. Really.'
