Pres. Bush To Attend Mrs. King's Funeral

President and Mrs. Bush will attend Coretta Scott King's funeral on Tuesday, the White House announced Saturday.

Former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Clinton will also attend the service at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, where Mrs. King's daughter Bernice ministers.

More than 25,000 mourners braved cold, wet weather Saturday to pay respects to Mrs. King as her casket lay in honor at the State Capitol.

She was the first woman and the first African-American to lie in honor at the statehouse.

A horse-drawn hearse brought her bronze casket to the Capitol, and bagpipes played "Amazing Grace" as an honor guard from the Georgia State Patrol carried it inside.

Mourners spent an average of two hours in line to spend a brief moment of silence in front of the casket.

"We want to just give our last respects to a wonderful woman who has done so much for Atlanta, and the world," Gladys Simmons said.

"This is just a way of saying thank you," Ronald Moore said, "and thanking her for the sacrifices she made for people like me that she didn't know. It's the least we could do."

Gov. Sonny Perdue and his wife Mary escorted the casket into the statehouse, a sharp contrast to the official snub afforded Martin Luther King Jr. nearly four decades ago by segregationist Gov. Lester Maddox.

"Coretta Scott King was a gracious and courageous woman, an inspiration to millions and one of the most influential civil rights leaders of our time," Perdue said during a brief ceremony. "She was absolutely an anchor and support for her husband."

King's four children -- Yolanda, Dexter, Martin Luther King III and Bernice -- spent a few minutes at the open casket before the doors were thrown open to the public. Yolanda King stroked her mother's face, and she and her sister Bernice wiped away tears.

I can hardly WAIT to hear what Slick Willie has to say! I mean, he was Rosa Parks sittin' at the back of the bus a few weeks ago, LOL! This ought to be good...

Bill Clinton: The bride at every wedding, the corpse at every funeral.

I believe one of King's daughters is a republican.

I pray tht our President is treated with respect.

Certainly the published invited guests are among the charlatans of the civil rights movement.

I don't think his daughter Bernice will go for her mother's funeral being turned into a DNConvention like Rosa Parks was. I hope i'm right.

"I believe one of King's daughters is a republican."

Wow, would love to know if this is true.

I wonder of the Clintons will manage to stay awake during this funeral?

Also wonder what we're going to hear from the media about President and Mrs. Bush attending.

I really don't know why anyone cares. MLK's birthday has become a day to celebrate racial hatred year after year. The NAACP has become worse than the KKK ever was because they get a tax break to spew what they believe. What gives with me?

MLK's philosophy must be flushed down the toilet so today's "negroes" stay as slaves to a socialist Party that keeps them stupid, subservient and dependent.

GOD forbid someone actually studies King's philosophy in a public school today. They would be labeled a right-wing extremist and expelled.

And your point is...what? That President Bush will make her funeral "all about him" as Slick Willie will surely do?

I sincerely doubt it.

I'm sorry but I do not believe this is the kind of thread to be posting about a cruise. This thread is in reference to the article and the Life and funeral of Coretta Scott King. It 's not a thread about taking cruises, partying and having a good time.I do believe their is already an appropriate thread for the cruise which everyone knows about.

God Bless the King family during this time.
