The Dutch embassy building in Beirut has been attacked by furious Muslims, they also attacked the Danish consulate. They are protesting against the controversial cartoons of the prophet Mohammed in European newspapers.
The minister for foreign affairs has announced that windows were smashed in the Dutch embassy building.
Acts of war, such as attacks on embassies, must be met with a military response.
Are you gonna hold your breath for that to happen? Me neither..
It's funny. I glanced over at Eschaton and Atrios felt he finally needed to make a "For the obligatory-must-comment-on-the-events-of-the-day-post".
I think that phrase pretty much stakes out the position the left finds themselves in. They feel "obliged" to comment on the riots, (in the most nuetral way possible) yet one gets the feeling that if these were Christian abortion protesters burning down a clinic he would be all over it like white on rice. Multiple posts would be made within an hour of the event and much decrying of the placards they carried would also be done. One wonders how long it took Atrios to comment on Pat Robertsons view on bumping off Chaves, and if he felt that his comments were merely "obligitory".
I think this is why the left will never be taken seriously on matters like this.
NATO - Where is thy sting?
Beirut. Express elevator to Hell.
So by that standard our response in Tehran, 1979, was to fly a flag of white stars on a white field.
I'm not disagreeing with you: our failure to defend our territory a quarter century ago was one of the first great empowerments given to AQ and its ilk.
"Acts of war, such as attacks on embassies, must be met with a military response."
Against who exactly?
Well, you're right, of course - it ain't gonna happen. Instead, the West will let this go on and on until there's nothing left but kill or be killed. We should be closing mosques and sending these people back to from whence they came on a large scale.
Your right but we won't until it's too late. Come to think of it it maybe to late already.
I consider this to be a moral failing since refusing to recognize and deal with the threat will predictably lead to even greater death and carnage. Does Bush think all this happy talk "religion of peace" is going to change anything? Their 'allah' is a demon and the fruits of their worship are barbarism. "Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, etc."
If Europe reaches the critical mass of Muslim immigrants, they won't need to watch the fires on TV. They'll only need to look out their windows.
Thanx be to Carter.
"Against who exactly?"
The Lebanese state and its entire people, of course. Andrei Gromyko remarked after the Iran storming of the US embassy in Tehran in 1979 that, if the students had pulled the same stunt at the Soviet Embassy, Tehran would be a crater by lunchtime.
Carter: the Neville Chamberlain of our present World War III.
"The Lebanese state and its entire people, of course."
The Lebanese state that sent 2000 riot police to try to manage the situation and arrested 200 people, and the entire people, the vast majority of which were not involved in anyway? Yeah that makes sense...
