WASHINGTON, Feb. 5, 2006 – Iraqi forces discovered a roadside bomb and caught the would-be bomber of a bridge in two separate incidents in Tikrit, Iraq, yesterday, Multinational Security Transition Command Iraq officials said. Iraqi police officers reported an improvised explosive device discovered along a Tikrit business route to coalition personnel. Bomb disposal personnel cleared the two surface=laid artillery shells, which had been concealed with a timing device in a plastic bag.

The same day, Iraqi soldiers identified and detained a would-be bomber and defused an explosive device after some quick coordination with coalition personnel.

Iraqi troops became suspicious of a man with a cell phone near a bridge on the east side of town. The soldiers also suspected a bomb was emplaced and contacted coalition troops with the information.

An Iraqi army quick-reaction force was dispatched, and the suspect was arrested. The bomb was discovered on the side of the bridge and disarmed. The detainee and roadside bomb were turned over to authorities for further disposition.

Leave the bomb armed, place it underground along a route known to be frequented by the terrorists...and wait.

Or just tie the bomb-planter to the bomb first?

So many choices...

Full Disclosure: How hard would it be to find the frequencies / codes preferred by the terrorists for remote triggering of the bombs.

Two choices: Broadcast the frequencies randomly hoping to detonate the bombs ahead of convoys? Or Hope to set off the bombs as they are being held in terrorist safe houses prior to implantation...?

Cheers!

This guy should be tried, convicted and executed all within 24 hrs. Preferably by blowing him up with his own bomb.

About 20 years ago I repaired auto garage doors. I had a small signal generator and would pull into the drive and slowly spin through several frequency ranges until the garage door opened.

I never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed but could not this 21 st century equipment auto signal generate to make devices explode in advance.

But maybe that would be to PC for the spit toung hair lips

To accomplish anything, they need to bury him in a grave full of pig's blood, and publish the pictures with a warning to other terrorists.

Obvously loitering near a bridge with your cell phone. Not what I'd call a brilliant tactical move.

It would be interesting if cellular base stations could be configured to cause an automatic, brief "call" to all cell phone in range, just to activate their ringers. Wait till you start patrolling an area, and then activate that feature to help clear the way. Boom.

Umm you have to take civilian casualties into account. There will only be one or two terrorists around, but there could be a lot of traffic around a convoy.

Personally, I like the idea of strapping the bomb to a terrorist wire it up to his cell. When his buddies call to see how his mission went...BOOM!
