Gainesville, GA (Jan. 31) - A new independent Zogby International poll released today shows that Casey Cagle is the only candidate for the Republican Lt. Governor's nomination currently positioned to win against a Democrat this fall.

According to the results, Cagle currently holds a five point lead over the Democratic nominee, while Reed lags behind the Democrat by three points. These results track past independent polls, such as a recent InsiderAdvantage poll which found Reed's favorable rating among general election voters was actually lower than his unfavorable rating.

The poll, conducted for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, also found Cagle maintains better approval ratings among Republicans, with an unfavorable rating of only 4%. By contrast, Reed's unfavorables among Republicans are more than double, at 10%.

"Every independent poll taken in this race has found Casey Cagle is the only Republican candidate who can beat the Democrats in the fall. This is one of the biggest reasons more and more Republican leaders are joining our team every day," said Cagle spokesman Brad Alexander.

"Georgians place a high importance on electing leaders who are trustworthy and honest, and that focus is clearly reflected in these numbers," Alexander continued.

Who is Cagle? I've never heard of him. Of course, I don't follow GA Statehouse politics all that much. I live in Atlanta. I read somewhere that Perdue had 61% popularity ratings.

So you still have no idea if you're leaning towards voting for Casey Cagle or Ralph Reed in the republican primary for Lt. Governor of Georgia?

No. I'd have to know more about Cagle. Reed's pluses and negatives are pretty well known.

atleast this race will give me a reason to vote in the primary. I was called recently for a survey and since I told them I was unlikely to vote in the primary (since I'm assumming Perdue won't be challenged seriously within his party & there are no US Senate races this year) they told me that was it for the survey.
