Sadly, this prediction may well be true, but not in the way the speaker intended. If insane radical Islamics do succeed in forcing a reluctant West to make real war against Islam, then Islam and most of its adherents will be anihilated. The West will then indeed have ample time for reflection and remorse.

The War or Terrorism can largely be seen as an effort to avoid this outcome. Those who constantly wonder why Bush keeps calling Islam a "Religion of Peace" when the facts patently contradict this assessment fail to appreciate the terrible burden he carries. He is doing everything possible to avoid the need to scar the planet and the American soul with the moral aftermath of such a war. As a Christian and as the leader of the greatest civilizing force the world has ever known he can pursue no other course.

Time and technology are on the West's side, but "staying the course" will still be long and difficult. It took 45 years to win the Cold War and we're still adjusting to its aftermath. This war may take a century or more becuase winning it will involve conceptual and cultural changes which can only occur over the span of many generations.
