L.A. Mayor Criticism of Bush: Much Ado About Nothing
The Post Chronicle ^ | 2/10/06 | Jim Kouri

Posted on 02/10/2006 6:46:55 AM PST by RepublicNewbie

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa claims he received word of the new details of the 2002 terror plot like most Americans -- watching President Bush's speech on a cable news channel.

He complained that his office should have been warned beforehand about Bush's speech since the details concerned his city.

"I'm amazed that the president would make this (announcement) on national TV and not inform us of these details through the appropriate channels," the mayor said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I don't expect a call from the president -- but somebody."

However, the White House did notify City Hall. A spokesman for Matt Bettenhausen, California's homeland security chief, said he personally contacted a deputy mayor Wednesday afternoon with advance notice of the president's comments. Apparently it was the deputy mayor who failed to notify the mayor.

Only a democrat could make hay out of an announcement that a terrorist attack had been averted.

I am not sure who Jim Kouri is but I have this to say: The media is coming out and Feinstein is coming out with this "WHY N-O-O-W?? WHY NOW?" I cant even fathom this stupidity. Certain things are classified and not for public consumption. The President is trying to protect the American public. These people make me want to vomit.

What is funny is that the Dems are trying to tie it to the NSA case, saying Bush is using this to justify the wiretapping. Nothing could be further from the truth, wiretapping had nothing to do with this. This Homeland Security Report from Apr 2004 gives the details:

Library Tower in downtown Los Angeles and the Sears Tower in Chicago were targeted by al-Qaeda for attacks in the days following Sept. 11, 2001, officials confirmed last Tuesday.

The terrorist group's operations chief, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, has told interrogators that al-Qaeda’s follow-up attacks in the Midwest and West Coast were thwarted by the intensity of the U.S. response to the strikes on the Twin Towers in New York and on the Pentagon, according to a report in the Washington Times quoting official transcripts.

Tell Villaraigosa:
"Here's the deal bud: you're the newly-minted mayor of an out-of-control city; George Bush is the President of the United States.

The 'proper channels' are for YOU to address HIM in a respectful manner, and ask him nicely if there's anything he thinks you need to know."

Sounds to me like this mayor is as read in as the mayor of New Orleans as to what his office knew but the mayor did not.

Wake up LA.

"It was all in the 9-11 Commission Report, Tony.

It was also reported in the LA Times almost two years ago. The Mayor's staff is now acknowledging that they were forewarned that President Bush was about to discuss the details of this planned attack. God help us out here in La-La land.

This actually doesn't sound so unreasonable. And I can see the MSM making more of it than the mayor may have intended.
