James E. Hansen, the NASA climate scientist who sparked an uproar last month by accusing the Bush administration of keeping scientific information from reaching the public, said Friday that officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are also muzzling researchers who study global warming.
Hansen, speaking in a panel discussion about science and the environment before a packed audience at the New School university, said that while he hopes his own agency will soon adopt a more open policy, NOAA insists on having "a minder" monitor its scientists when they discuss their findings with journalists.
"It seems more like Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union than the United States," said Hansen, prompting a round of applause from the audience. He added that while NOAA officials said they maintain the policy for their scientists' protection, "if you buy that one please see me at the break, because there's a bridge down the street I'd like to sell you."

Also Friday, George C. Deutsch, 24, a NASA spokesman who resigned this week after allegations that he had edited scientists' writings to conform to administration views and tried to limit reporters' access to Hansen, e-mailed reporters to say there is a "culture war" in the government over climate change. Deutsch's resignation came after it was learned he had not graduated from Texas A&M University, as he claimed on his résumé.
"There is no pressure or mandate, from the Bush administration or elsewhere, to alter or water down scientific data at NASA, period," Deutsch said, adding that after being tasked to work with Hansen, "I quickly learned one thing: Dr. Hansen and his supporters have a very partisan agenda and ties reaching to the top of the Democratic Party.

I had to excerpt the article due to copyright constraints. Here's some additional info for those who don't want to click on the link:
-Mr. Deutsch added that percieved Republican, Bush supporters and Christians are "singled out and labeled a threat to their views", and urged reporters to consider Dr. Hansen's true motivations and the "dangerous implications of only hearing out one side of the global warming debate."
-NOAA Administrator Conrad C. Lautenbacher denied Dr. Hansen's charges, noting that NOAA only requires its scientists to notify the NOAA press office if the speak to journalists, but doesn't supply minders.
-Congressman Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY), who has been investigating the issue after Dr. Hansen's earlier complaints in January said that there have been no "outpourings from the scientific community" alleging government censorship and that as far as he knows, "there are no plans in place to intimidate or stifle science."
-Dr. Hansen was invited to the New School by Former Senator Bob Kerry due to his concerns about the adminstration's alleged attempts to "steer the debate over global warming".
As always, there's more at the link.

Over reaction and spending on a theory that can't be proven. I'm thinking that what is is being "muzzled" is the conclusion by this guy that man is the sole cause of all planet activity good or bad and that nothing else except man could cause the warming and cooling of the planet.

There I corrected that sentence.

Why? Because even *if* you find something you can't do anything about it.
When a real scientist explains how the polar icecaps of Mars can be stopped then maybe I'll listen.

I disagree. One day we will see an ice age hit the earth. I would like to know when. Once we figure out 'when' we should create a plan for food and the like.
What bugs me about these so call scientists is they think man can change the weather. These people are so arrogant they make me sick.

Muzzling = won't fund from federal taxpayer's purse.
Seems to me that with the ease of liberal fundraising, some private foundation should be open-sourcing the "proofs" (whatever they be) of global warming. Let 100,000 computer geeks check their work.

Polar bear breath is what brings about global cooling.

Here's a number of links about the politicization of science by the left and that dispute the claims of global warming:
From:
http://www.sepp.org/keyissue.html - Controversies about environmental hazards and the management of natural resources have spilled over into attacks on scientists who do not subscribe to "politically correct" views. Scientific evidence based on observed facts is being subordinated to speculative theory and unverified computer models. Scientific debate is being replaced by pressure to conform to a new orthodoxy, reinforced by the control of research funds by governmental agencies. Particularly disturbing is the increasing evidence that this funding biases even scientific organizations and university science faculties. Yet the future of science depends on open and untrammeled debate. For related commentary, see Misuse of Science.
From:
http://www.sepp.org/statment.html - As independent scientists, researching atmospheric and climate problems, we are concerned by the agenda for UNCED, the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, being developed by environmental activist groups and certain political leaders.
From:
http://www.oism.org/pproject/ - This treaty is, in our opinion, based upon flawed ideas. Research data on climate change do not show that human use of hydrocarbons is harmful. - Frederick Seitz, Past President, National Academy of Sciences, U.S.A.
From:
http://www.sitewave.net/news/s49p1523.htm - Despite billions of dollars and millions of propaganda headlines, the global warming prophesied by the climate modeling industry is not scientifically real
From:
http://www.sitewave.net/news/s49p1521.htm - I have been asked to talk about what I consider the most important challenge facing mankind, and I have a fundamental answer. The greatest challenge facing mankind is the challenge of distinguishing reality from fantasy, truth from propaganda
As an example of this challenge, I want to talk today about environmentalism. "Environmentalism as Religion" by Michael Crighton
From:
http://www.friendsofscience.org/ - Never in world history, outside the collective insanity marshaled behind Marxism through much of the last century, has a political movement required such an unrelenting flood of propaganda and media manipulation to stay afloat.

I saw a reports on PBS about this topic. Pure conjecture about global warming caused by human activities. Pure Bovine Squat. The truth is that global change is upon us but the change is caused by Space Weather. It is not global warming that is critical; it is
ocean warming. Ocean warming is caused by underwater volcanic activity. More to the point is the fact that climatic change is cyclic. Right now we are at the end of a warming cycle. Then, the cycle will switch suddenly to a global cooling stage. The earth has gone through these changes for millions of years.
It is not global warming, stupid. It is Global Cooling!

Hansen has based his entire career on Global Warming®. He considers any attempt to refute or even question the Global Warming® theory to be a personal affront and a threat to his status in the scientific community.

As an example of this challenge, I want to talk today about environmentalism. "Environmentalism as Religion" by Michael CrightonI find it very interesting that Crighton, who used to be the darling of the liberal and the Left Coast establishment, is now on their excremental roster because he's telling the truth about the environmental movement.
I thought his book "State of Fear" was one of the two best skewerings of the enviro-nazis ever written (the other being "Rainbow Six" by Clancy). "State of Fear" would make a fine movie, but I notice there is not one forthcoming.
Furthermore, it seems Crighton doesn't care about rehabing his tattered reputation with Hollyweird. Bully for him!
