(Brussels, DTT-NET.COM)- A prestigious think-tank said that Kosovo’s independence must be imposed on Serbia, because of impossibility of reaching any agreement between Kosovan Ethnic Albanians and Serbian authorities on the future of UN administrated province. “To create a stable Kosovo, the international community must dare to impose independence rather than attempt finessing Pristina and Belgrade’s differences with an ambiguous and unstable settlement,“ International Crisis Group (ICG) said in a report published on Friday. ICG says that agreement between all parties remains desirable in theory, “it is extremely unlikely that any Serbian government will voluntarily acquiesce to the kind of independence, conditional though it is likely to be, which is necessary for a secure, long-term solution”. “The international community – particularly UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari – must prepare for the possibility of imposing an independence package.” ICG suggested. The think tank at the same time urged Kosovo’s Albanian majority, to negotiate deals for Serb and other minority rights in an independent Kosovo. It also said the international community “will have to remain in Serb-dominated northern Kosovo to avoid a violent breakdown after independence.”

Since the Serbs and the Albanians cannot stand one another, or coexist within the same polity, the best solution would be to partition the place along the pattern of ethnic settlement, so as to minimize the number of people who would have to become displaced, and then to proceed to the property settlement. Vaclav Havel appears to be uniquely qualified by wisdom and experience to serve as an example of how these things are done by civilized people.

Dude its to simple to say to the Serbs that they should loose half of their historical heritage to a population of people intimidated and controlled by the KLA. Your simple solution is just that to simple. Its like reach a solution while turning the page of the newspaper.

The US want allies in the war against terrorism. The Serbs have been dealing with Islamic extremists a lot longer than the existence of the USA. The US needs a reliable allies and its the Serbs they can rely on. The Serbs understand what it is to be on the front lines against an Islamic invasion. To simply say to the Serbs that half of the land that their ancestors have bled upon is going to the Muslims Albanians (KLA) is a huge insult. It would be the same as giving Virgina to the British. I know the Serbs and I also know the Albanians in particular the KLA. It would be the Serbs that I would count on as an Allie. Giving part of Kosovo to the KLA terrorists is a big mistake because it will not stop there.

In Kosovo the Serbs have been ethnically cleansed from most of the region. Most of them now live in UN/NATO enclaves up north, near the border, from what I can gather. A partition plan right now would just cement this situation, which is not reasonable.
