THE RED CARDINAL'S hat on its way to Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley sends a clear message to liberal Catholics who still hope the Catholic Church will shift their way: It isn't shifting....
Last week, seven members of the board of Catholic Charities of Boston announced their resignations. They were protesting the effort by Massachusetts bishops to prohibit gays from adopting children from their Catholic social service agencies. The seven who quit said the prohibition ''threatens the very essence of our Christian mission."...
But the Roman Catholic Church, the institution seeking the prohibition, holds a drastically different view.
Church doctrine states that allowing children to be adopted by same-sex couples ''would actually mean doing violence to these children." Gay adoptions are ''gravely immoral."
If you agree with those principles, you are, according to the Vatican, a Catholic in good standing...
If you don't, you're not.
Liberals raised as Catholics refuse to accept this reality. We think we can be prochoice, pro-gay marriage , pro-gay adoption, and in favor of married and female priests and still call ourselves Catholic. The people who make the rules say we don't meet the criteria....
The church in Rome thinks in centuries, not in news cycles. It isn't budging.
Will liberals in America ever get the message?

The question is "Are Boston Catholics really Catholic at all?"
If you don't like the beliefs of a church, leave the church and find one you can agree with. If you can't, start your own.
If you believe this, then you are not Catholic. Period. Mother Church is unlikely to move anywhere on those issues.
Might as well leave, and find a church that more suits your needs.
**** The seven who quit said the prohibition ''threatens the very essence of our Christian mission."... *****
If the very essence of their Christian mission is to give babies to queers so they can be raised in a home with perverts, then they made the right decision to quit.
I think you can believe married priests should be allowed in greater numbers, but since the Bible tells us that homosexual acts are an abomination, there is no choice on that issue.
How can a liberal consider himself a Catholic anyway? It's almost like calling himself a Satanic Christian.
The liberals are trying to change the Church to conform to thier evil views.
Instead of trying to change the Church they should just form their own. Call it the church of the damned.
I am not Catholic but I applaud the Catholic Church for sticking to what is right and Godly.
I thought they already had but are just not admitting it to themselves.
I'm not a catholic, but I agree with you...if they reject just about every teaching of the catholic church then they aren't really a member of that church. Same goes for any other group as well, really.
The writer has not a clue. Catholics who don't agree with the doctrine are not unwelcome. They are encouraged to become better educated on the deposit of faith and to understand Catholic teaching. What they portray as progressive intellectualism is actually a narcissistic ignorance. They disagree with the Church's teachings on sexuality from the roots of their American secular liberalism. I wonder how many of them are actually informed in their self proclaimed "conscience"?
Those of us who follow the Master believe there is another possibility - that they will "get the message" (His message), and cease their apostasy.
We live in interesting times.
Liberals haven't left yet? Don't they know we speak about [whisper] God here? How unPC is that?
IIRC, this group has been at odd with the church for a while. Just like those Catholic for Choice or something.
If you believe in married clergy there are churches for you to consider.
If you believe in gay "marriage", you are not a Christian by any reasonable definition.
How can a liberal consider himself a Catholic? He can't
consider himself anything Christ believing. You can't kill babys and consider yourself anything but anti-religious.
