Cinderella 2008?( Frist vs Pence)
Survey St. Louis ^ | 3-16-06

Posted on 03/16/2006 10:57:59 AM PST by KyleM

Presidential March Madness

Will a Cinderella story emerge today?

Conservative House member, first-time tournament candidate and 16 seed, Mike Pence has a big lead over Senate Majority Leader, weekend straw poll winner and heavy favorite, Bill Frist.

We also have a close race between Mitt Romney and John Kyl. This one should go down to the wire.

Rudy, Condi, Ridge and Thune look like they will have not trouble advancing to Round II

If you have not yet voted, you have until 7 PM CST tonight!!!

If you have a favorite and they are losing, you better spread the word!

TOMORROW Morning we open voting for the SOUTH bracket at 7 AM.

Some of the bid contenders in the SOUTH bracket are defending 2005 champion Haley Barbour, George Allen, Sam Brownback and Colin Powell.

THANK YOU

Hope you are enjoying the tournament so far.

I just found out yesterday that Pence was on the Republican Study Committee that came up with this alternate budget as posted on the Cato.org website.

His views on the Second Amendment are a bit conflicted, but are a step in the right direction. Especially compared to GWB.

Pence is the chairman of the Republican Study Committee.
The alternate budget was his idea.

Good idea. I've read the doc I found off of Cato. Makes a hell of a lot more sense than Bush's budget.

Then again, a lot of people have come up with purposed cuts only to see them shot down by Congress. Maybe we just need to tell them to pack up and leave us alone for a year or two?

If Pence gets his head right on the whole 2A thing, I'd vote for him. He at least sounds like he knows what he is talking about from a Federal standpoint. We might actually see the "F" removed from the BATFE with Mike in charge. His views on State infringments need some work.

Budget wise, he almost sounds libertarian. ;-)

I don't know why Frist's name is coming up so often.

He is OK as a Senator but has no chance for the Oval. No chance.

Registration, licensing, and State level bans.

As the Founders pointed out, why bother having a Federal constitution/Bill of Rights if it doesn't restrict State actions as well in the defined areas. Stating things like:

“Furthermore, Congress should recognize the primacy of state law in matters related to firearms purchases and registration and should support state efforts to disarm dangerous criminals.”

Only means that we get rid of the NFA of '34 and other Federal infringements, but then States like Kalifornistan, NY, and Maryland are just fine in imposing their own bans.

To put this another way, what if the Federal ban on slavery were ignored at the State level? What good would there be in giving the FedGov any power at all?

Are you sure on that? I know he received an award by the same name from the National Taxpayers Institute.

Don't get me wrong. His views are definately an improvement from what gun owners have had to put up with since 1986. Just not the stellar "jump up and down" get excited kind of thing I was hoping for.

If he makes it on the ticket, and absent a better candidate (highly unlikely), he could probably earn my vote.

He sucks in the leadership position. He is as much of a spineless dish rag as Trent Lott! I'd rather see George Allen. At least he was a governor of a state. Team him with Pence and that is a dream ticket and sure fire winner! Unfortuniately, I have a feeling McCain is going to be crammed down our throats whether we like it or not!

Allen isn't as Pro-2A as Pence. Not by a long shot. That disqualifies him right off the bat IMO. GOA gave Pence an A and Allen a C.

Allen approves of the unConstitutional Federal Gun laws on the books. Pence wants them gone.

I couldn't care less about charisma. I only care about how they vote. Clinton had sh*tloads of charisma. BFD...

Here is some info that might make you think higher of Pence

" But I rise, very briefly, to begin the argument. Specifically, I seek to refute what I believe will be the false federalism argument that many will employ today.

“To say that the District of Columbia has the right to pass its own gun laws, even when in so doing, they ban and discriminate against the blood-bought right to keep and bear arms that is enshrined in the Constitution. "

Send him a copy of Nunn V. Georgia and have him get back to me. While he is correct in that States can "regulate" firearms for militia use, said "regulation" can never be so strict or destructive as to infringe on the basic Right. In essence, they can outlaw Concealed carry, but then cannot also outlaw open carry. They can require felons to attain a license, but not the Law Abiding not subject to criminal punishment.

A Right is a Right. You don't have to ask permission to exercise a Right. If you have to get a license, or if your State outright bans simple possession of an "arm", then you do not have a Right. Despite the Federal Constitutions exhortation that said Right "shall not be infringed" as the "Supreme law of the Land".

District of Columbia isn't technically a "State" which is where part of their legal problems come from and why the got saddled with crap like this to begin with. At least, that is my understanding of how they ended up with the ban that has created the "safe zone" for so many criminals. I admit I haven't looked into the DC areas issues as deeply as I probably should when discussing this topic and could very well be wrong in regards to them.

I'd boil it down to: Pence, Allen, Gingrich.

And who ever were nominated POTUS should designate one of the remaining two in my list above.

As for McCain...? I don't trust him; and his voice and appearance make my skin crawl.

Lol. Pence and Frist have NO chance to defeat the current No. 1 seed, John "Deadeye" McCain. They won't even make the Final Four.

You mistake the views of the most far right 10% of the GOP with the views of the other 90%. McCain will not be easily defeated and CANNOT be defeated with a candidate whom only appeals to that 10%.
