SAMARRA, Iraq -- Iraqi military officials said Friday that an offensive targeting insurgents in the desert northeast of Samarra has resulted in the capture of weapons and a man who may have been among those responsible for the recent bombing of a Shiite shrine in Samarra.
Iraqi military and political leaders, speaking at a forward base of operations along the Tigris River 80 miles northeast of Baghdad, said they were checking pictures and other documents to determine if they had captured one of those they believe planned the bombing of the Golden Mosque in Samarra and the killing of an Arabic TV journalist.
"One ringleader is in custody," Iraqi Gen. Abdul Jabbar said. "He is a main person in all the attacks that took place."
...
General Abdul Jabbar, a brigade commander with the Iraqi forces, said the group he was hunting was called Mohammed's Army, or Takfiris, and are linked with the forces of Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
Their principal target, they said, was Hamed Al Taki, alleged to be the leader of a terror cells. An American military official called Al Taki "a person of interest that we'd like to catch."

After we "wring" all the information out of his head.

dighton you are most assuredly correct. Don't think I'd care to be fingered as a mosque bombing suspect in Iraq about now for any sect.

It could appear the Iraqi are taking control of their own destiny. Of course, they are not able to do so, because they cannot work independently. sarc off>
