N.M. Dems Call For Bush's Exit
Albuquerque Journal ^ | Tuesday, March 21, 2006 | Jeff Jones

Posted on 03/21/2006 8:56:46 PM PST by woofie

The New Mexico Democratic Party is calling for President Bush's removal from office— a position some party leaders are already distancing themselves from.

The resolution says "the Democratic Party of New Mexico supports the impeachment of George Bush and his lawful removal from office." It was adopted as a floor amendment to the state party platform at a convention Saturday in Albuquerque.

The state Democratic Party chairman, John Wertheim, said Saturday's vote at a gathering of more than 1,200 party delegates shows that many Democrats believe the Bush administration is "fraught with abuses of power and violations of the Constitution."

State Republican chairman Allen Weh on Monday chalked up the vote in part to "mob psychology" at the Democratic Party's pre-primary convention at Highland High School.

"The mob psychology starts to take place, and moderate people get intimidated into going along," Weh said. "I submit to you there are lots of patriotic Democrats— and that this frenzied mob of left-wing radicals doesn't represent the mainstream Democrats in the heartland."

Wertheim said he believes at least two other state Democratic parties have adopted similar resolutions.

New Mexico Democratic party executive director Matt Farrauto said he thinks the New Mexico party's vote is "consistent with the national mood" concerning Bush.

Meanwhile, two prominent New Mexico Democrats— Sen. Jeff Bingaman, who is seeking re-election this year, and Attorney General Patricia Madrid, who is challenging Republican Rep. Heather Wilson for the 1st Congressional District seat— steered clear of the state party action.

Madrid, who attended the convention, said through a spokeswoman Monday that she was out of the room when the Bush impeachment vote came up and did not cast a vote herself.

"I believe this is premature," Madrid said of the Bush resolution. "I hope I get the chance to go to Congress to participate in a full investigation of the underlying issues."

Bingaman did not attend the pre-primary convention because he was traveling in the Middle East.

Bingaman's spokeswoman, Jude McCartin, said Monday that Bingaman supports a "9/11-commission-style" inquiry into warrantless domestic wiretapping by the administration. But McCartin said she's unaware of anyone in Washington— Bingaman included— who is talking about a possible impeachment.

Delegates from both state parties met at separate locations in Albuquerque on Saturday to endorse candidates for June 6 primary elections and vote on party platforms.

A platform vote on impeaching Bush was not included in the Democratic Party's written list of topics for consideration. Wertheim said party delegate Robb Chavez of Bernalillo County called from the floor for the Bush resolution as the convention unfolded Saturday.

Wertheim said the resolution passed with a vote of more than two-thirds of the delegates.

"It was probably 80/20," Wertheim said of the vote in favor of the resolution. "There was not a single person to speak in opposition."

Wertheim criticized Bush for the recent revelations of domestic wiretapping done without a warrant by the National Security Agency— a program the president authorized.

He faulted Bush for what he called misstatements the president made about the threat posed by Iraq. And he pointed to the recent indictment of Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide in a case involving the outing of a CIA agent's name— though neither Bush nor Cheney has been implicated in the case.

Realistically, "impeachment is not going to happen while we have a Republican Congress," Wertheim said. But he said the resolution shows "there's widespread sentiment among Democrats that the Bush administration has been fraught with abuse of power— and a greater degree of violations than anything the Clinton administration did."

Weh characterized Wertheim's criticism of the Bush domestic wiretapping program as "bullcrap" and said the program is a necessity considering the current threats to the country.

"If we had a Democratic president in office, he'd be doing the same doggone thing— John Wertheim knows it, and I know it," Weh said.

They say this stuff, but they don't have the guts to push for this in Congress (with the notable exception of Feingold).

Of course congressional Democrats never have the guts to really say what they believe. They just weasle around the edges of their hatred for this country.

"If we had a Democratic president in office, he'd be doing the same doggone thing— John Wertheim knows it, and I know it," Weh said.

given that they consider the Republicans a bigger enemy to them than the terrorists, I think we can safely assume who would be in their sights.

He must be a real moonbat. Their stance is not even consistent with the majority of Dems on the Hill in Washington DC.

Since when do little burbs or big cities or state parties impeach the President?

This crap is getting old. President Bush was re-elected 16 1/2 months ago by an extremely comfortable margin with nearly 64 million votes.

Who do these morons think they are to subvert the will of the people? Okay, I'll go read the article now.

I simply must play "Stop The Tape!" with this one:

The resolution says "the Democratic Party of New Mexico supports the impeachment of George Bush and his lawful removal from office." It was adopted as a floor amendment to the state party platform at a convention Saturday in Albuquerque. There it is, people - in black and white, behold the single issue that the Left will campaign on, finally confessed for the masses - vote for us, and we'll overthrow the government in time of war. If there is a better, clearer definition of sedition, I don't know it.

"I submit to you there are lots of patriotic Democrats— and that this frenzied mob of left-wing radicals doesn't represent the mainstream Democrats in the heartland." Bullsh!t. They voted for it, therefore they support it. And there is NO SUCH BEAST in existence anymore, as a patriotic Leftist.

But McCartin said she's unaware of anyone in Washington— Bingaman included— who is talking about a possible impeachment. Comrade McCartin is a Liar. I suppose one never heard of Comrade Feingold?

Wertheim said the resolution shows "there's widespread sentiment among Democrats that the Bush administration has been fraught with abuse of power— and a greater degree of violations than anything the Clinton administration did." Comrade Wetheim is also a liar. When has the President committed perjury, suborning of perjury, witness tampering, or obstruction of justice? When has the President sold nuclear secrets to a foreign power (North Korea), accepted campaign contributions from a foreign power (Communist China), endangered national security (waving off offers to arrest OBL), or committed US troops to battle to cover political corruption (Operation Desert Fox)?

I hate these people. Can I select which Americans I have to defend?

Top N.M. Dems don't join impeach call
By Erik Siemers
Tribune Reporter
March 21, 2006

Posted 2:10 p.m. State Democratic Party officials say their call to impeach President Bush is not realistic.

They just want to bring attention to what they consider egregious abuses of power, including the administration's authorization of wiretaps without warrants.

But two prominent state Democrats - Attorney General Patricia Madrid and U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman - have distanced themselves from last weekend's vote in Albuquerque.

Madrid, trying to oust Republican U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson of Albuquerque, said in a statement today she wasn't present when the vote was taken Saturday. She called the action "premature."

"I hope I get the chance to go to Congress to participate in a full investigation of the underlying issues," she said.

Bingaman also says it's too early to support sanctions against Bush for the wiretapping issue, said his spokeswoman, Jude McCartin. Bingaman was in Afghanistan Saturday and is in Baghdad today.

Party Chairman John Wertheim said today the caution expressed by Madrid and Bingaman doesn't represent a split between the party and its high-profile elected officials.

"I think our elected leaders are making the right point; they're saying we need to know more facts," Wertheim said.

"I don't see a big split. What I do see is that, rightfully, Jeff Bingaman and Patricia Madrid are calling for a greater investigation of the facts."

The party and around 1,400 delegates gathered for its Pre-Party Nominating Convention at Highland High School on Saturday, Wertheim said.

Bernalillo County delegate Robb Chavez called for a motion to amend the party's platform to include the impeachment language, Wertheim said.

The issue passed with about 80 percent of 1,000 delegates present holding up their credential cards, Wertheim said. A two-thirds vote was needed, he said.

"I don't think anybody realistically believes the president will be impeached," Wertheim said.

"This was an attempt by a delegate and a vast number of people who voted for it to call attention to these abuses in power."

Bingaman is co-sponsor of a bill calling for an investigation into the wiretapping program to see if it broke any laws, McCartin said.

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, is sponsoring a bill seeking to censure Bush, but McCartin said Bingaman believes even that action is premature without further investigation.

"Censure is several steps away from an impeachment," McCartin said. "There's not even enough information for that."

Marta Kramer, executive director of the Republican Party of New Mexico, called the state's Democratic leadership a "failure."

"(Gov. Bill) Richardson, Bingaman and Patsy Madrid have sided with the most radical elements in the Democrat Party," Kramer said in a statement today. "The only plan the Democrats have is to demoralize Americans and support for our troops."

Now, Sarge, calm down. You know in your heart of hearts you don't really mean that. Not really...

NM demos are pulling for Richardson to be the next president. LOL The curtain is pulling back to show him with some bad baggage.

Rush needs to bring this up. Honest this is great stuff. Despite the weak spined Republican Congress, the Dems have devised a plan to save them by nationalizing the election as a referendum on the 2004 election.

Just like with the Feingold thing, this has got to hurt if it sees the light of day.
