UC Berkeley Republicans Demand University Explanation for Politically Biased Study
The California Patriot ^

BERKELEY, CA—The California Patriot, Berkeley’s student-run conservative magazine, and the Berkeley College Republicans are demanding an explanation from the University of California, Berkeley, regarding a study that links childhood personality traits to political ideology.

The study, which was performed by a UC Berkeley psychology professor and has been published in the Journal of Research in Personality, suggests that “whiny, insecure” children grow up to be conservatives, while “confident, resilient, self-reliant” children are more likely to become liberals, according to a recent article in The Toronto Star.

The editors of The Patriot have responded with an online editorial, which states, “The concerns of Berkeley students, especially conservative ones, must be with the University itself, and with its wanton waste of resources on frivolous displays of intolerance.”

To conservative students at UC Berkeley, the study is troubling for several reasons. Not only does it pass off allegedly biased political assertions as scientific study, according to The Patriot, it also raises concerns over the allocation of University funds in a time when tuition is up and funding is already tight.

“This is ridiculous,” said Melanie C. Smith, Editor-in-Chief of The Patriot. “Doesn’t the best public university in the country have anything better to spend its money on than petty political statements masquerading as scientific studies?”

Patriot Publisher and Berkeley College Republicans Executive Director Amaury Gallais added, “This study doesn’t benefit anyone or enhance knowledge in any real way. In the end, it accomplishes nothing useful and is therefore wasteful.”

In addition to responding on its website, The Patriot plans to address this issue in the next installment of California Patriot Radio, a student-run conservative talk radio show that is currently podcast online.

It is more likely that “whiny, insecure” children grow up to be “whiny, insecure” adults, commonly known by the handy handle, liberals.

I'm liking it a lot that these kids are standing up for their rights and really for the standard of the university to be upheld in the name of science and truth.

Good luck, kids and I hope that the truth wins out.

SCIENCE doesn't have anything better to spend it's grant money on, how can she expect that universities will?

Republicans need to stop being so whiney and needy.

Everybody who's offended by this school yard prank ought to be "pantsed".

Okay it's true. All the bullies grew up to be Democrats.
But you "pencil necks" are an embarrassment. Grow some testicles.

What a bunch of retards!

They allow Republicans in Berkeley? I thought they were banned along with smoking, junk food, meat, and guns.

What a justifiable use of taxpayer dollars. < /s >

It is a public school.

"School yard pranks" are the stuff of daily news cycles it seems. As are making fake memos to smear a candidate as an election nears.

Communists did this sort of thing in the USSR all the time. Ignore it if you want. I find it disgusting. They can't win on issues so they lie, cheat, and steal.

Hmmm... wondering why all the "whiny" folk here in Texas hold state-wide office while all the bleeding heart "non-whiny" liberals are on the outside looking in?

Same goes for the executive, legislative, and quickly turning judicial branches at the federal level.

Trajan88, being the emperor that I am, declares THUMB'S DOWN on this POS "study."

All I know is that liberals can't accept losing elections (they cry in the streets about how life is not fair), they run away from the state when they know they will lose a redistricting vote, they refuse to take any personal responsibility (and thus the need for safety nets, abortion, and all sorts of "do overs").
