WASHINGTON -- In an indication that the federal investigation of Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, is continuing, a Virginia grand jury has subpoenaed records from a law firm where one of the congressman's daughters once worked, according to sources familiar with the case.
In addition, Judge T.S. Ellis III has agreed to delay sentencing for Brett Pfeffer, 37, a former Jefferson congressional aide who pleaded guilty in January to two felony charges, including aiding and abetting the solicitation of bribes. The sentencing, scheduled for March 31, has been put off until May 26.
Jefferson, 59, has denied wrongdoing, and aides said he will seek re-election to a ninth term this fall. Jefferson has said that he continues to work to bring assistance to his hurricane-ravaged district and that he isn't allowing the federal investigation to interfere with those efforts.
Pfeffer, who worked for a Virginia investment firm, had agreed as part of his plea deal to cooperate in the investigation and provide testimony, if needed, against a member of Congress, identified in court documents only as "Rep. A." Justice Department filings indicate that Pfeffer was a legislative assistant to "Rep. A" between 1995 and 1998, the same period when he worked for Jefferson.
Three sources familiar with the case said that a Northern Virginia grand jury overseeing the Jefferson investigation sought records from the Jones Walker law firm, which is based in New Orleans and has offices in Washington, D.C., and other cities.
Bill Hines, managing partner at Jones Walker, said the firm was "not able to comment" on the matter Wednesday.
Jefferson's daughter, Jamila Jefferson, worked for Jones Walker in the summer of 2004.

A democrat New Orleans shyster politician engaging in corrupt and criminal activities? Man, how likely is THAT?
So sorry. Those records were lost in the flood and it's Bush's fault.
That flood must've been worse than Anderson Cooper said - Jones Walker is on the 50th floor.
See...that's what you get when you listen to the MSM! They never get the story straight.
