WASHINGTON, March 27, 2006 (AFP) - The US government warned its citizens Monday to be cautious while visiting large French cities due to protests that have sometimes turned violent against a youth jobs contract.
"This Public Announcement is issued to alert Americans to ongoing security concerns in France," the US State Department said in a statement.
"Demonstrations, sometimes involving violence, have occurred and continue to occur in Paris and other large cities in France in opposition to a new law concerning employment contracts for young workers," the department said.
"Recent demonstrations have occurred at times in areas frequented by tourists. Some of the demonstrations may be announced, while others may be spontaneous. Police have responded by using tear gas," it said.
"US Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings," the advisory asid.
"The Department of State advises US citizens traveling or residing in France to avoid areas where crowds are expected to gather, to exercise caution, particularly during evening and nighttime hours, and to closely follow media reports.
France was bracing for strikes and more demonstrations Tuesday against Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin's contested youth jobs contract.
The US State Department issued a similar warning in November following riots in the suburbs of Paris.
Maybe they should urge caution while in LA, Houston, Dallas, Grand Rapids etc. due to the protests.
"There are problems all over" or
"Aren't you glad you don't live in France?" Ping.
Oh man.
OH man.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh man.
ROFL, Malesherbes!
LOL!!
*sigh*
Thanks.
In other words, when in France, avoid Frenchmen. Have a good holiday!
You're welcome, Anti-Bubba182. In fact, anytime you want to be pinged to happy, joy filled, fun threads, just ask. :-)
For example here are just a few from today's selection:
STUDENT PROTESTORS TAKE TO L.A. FREEWAY
Shoulder-Fired Missiles Pose Serious Threat to Passenger Jets
LA Students (Illegals) Shut Down Streets (Pictures, heavy graphics)
P.S. If I say something contradictory, pay no attention. I'm running a bit of a fever, okay well actually the doctor says that as soon as the fever is down to 104, the aches should disappear a week or two later and that I'll then "sound" better, whatever he meant by that! ;-)
Cops really crack heads over there. Few brutality law suits in places with Napoleonic Law. I dare the Commies who protest here to go join in over there. Heheheheh!
This was pretty much to be expected after the British announcement over the weekend.
