Bush-Shiva Caricature Upsets Web-Based Portal Owner
India West ^ | March 22, 3006 | Viji Sundaram

A caricature of a four-armed President Bush in the well-known tandava pose of Lord Shiva has roiled many Hindus and triggered an online signature campaign to protest its publication in a daily newspaper.

"It's a deeply insulting cartoon," Rajesh Gooty, the U.S.-based founder of Indiacause.com, a Web-based portal whose stated purpose it is to safeguard the interests of India, told India-West by telephone. "It is totally offensive to draw a parallel between Bush and Shiva."

The cartoon, which ran in the March 3 edition of The International Herald Tribune, a daily owned by the New York Times, depicts the U.S. president in a suit, holding in one hand a sign that says, "India Nuke Deal," and in another hand a sign that says, "Stop Iran Nukes." Bush is holding a club in his third hand, and what appears to be a hangman's noose in his fourth hand.

"Would the New York Times dare publish cartoons mocking Jesus or Prophet Mohammed," Gooty asked rhetorically. "The paper could have used a clown to get its message across, instead of Lord Shiva."

Gooty wondered how a paper such as the IHT would dare carry such an "offensive caricature" after witnessing the violent demonstrations by Muslims triggered by the recent publication of a cartoon of Prophet Mohammed in a number of newspapers.

Gooty said that since he initiated the protest campaign March 22, close to 1,200 people have signed the petition, which he plans to send the NYT demanding that the cartoon be retracted and an unconditional apology be given.

Through online campaigns, Indiacause.com claims that over the years it has succeeded in forcing Microsoft to remove the word "disputed" from a map showing the state of Jammu and Kashmir, forced CNN and Fox News to remove an India map drawn without the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and forced the Toronto Star to apologize for publishing an image of a nude Goddess Durga.

Something tells me we wont see tens of thousands of Hindu's rampaging across the globe burning embassies. I suppose I could be proved wrong but ...

I agree.

The muzlims have made it clear to all who care to see: "aggression pays".

It pays to be violent and insane and stoopid and rabiid and raving and issuing death threats.

So if the hindus want respect, they can't say they didn't know what to do...

Dear New York Times,

We understand that you are now a local paper and have at least 7 paperboys, keep up the good work. ps for advertising there is an up and coming Radio Show affiliate, you might be able to trade a little advertising ... look for "Air America"

My own Personal Poll

Would you consider the New York Times as;

Pro America

Anti America

****BUSH IS HITLER= __________ (100%*******)

Shiva is referred to as 'the good one' or 'the auspicious one'. Shiva - Rudra is considered to be the destroyer of evil and sorrow. Shiva - Shankara is the doer of good. Shiva is 'tri netra' or three eyed, and is 'neela kantha' - blue necked (having consumed poison, i.e., Halahala to save the world from destruction). Shiva - Nataraja is the Divine Cosmic Dancer.

Shiva—The 'blessed one,' the third member of Trimurti (Sanskrit equivalent of 'trinity') of Hinduism. He is Mahadeva, the 'great god' but primarily the Destroyer or Rudra, 'the terrible,' he destroys all that is born of evil and as destruction is but a prelude to fresh creation and the so-called death gateway to new life, he is worshipped as a creative expression of the Supreme Being, the one great god, (Mahadeva).
