Two Deadlines and an Exit
THE NEW YORK TIMES ^ | April 5, 2006 | JOHN F. KERRY

Posted on 04/04/2006 9:35:26 PM PDT by Ramstein75

WE are now in the third war in Iraq in as many years. The first was against Saddam Hussein and his supposed weapons of mass destruction. The second was against terrorists whom, the administration said, it was better to fight over there than here. Now we find our troops in the middle of an escalating civil war. Half of the service members listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall died after America's leaders knew our strategy would not work. It was immoral then and it would be immoral now to engage in the same delusion. We want democracy in Iraq, but Iraqis must want it as much as we do. Our valiant soldiers can't bring democracy to Iraq if Iraq's leaders are unwilling themselves to make the compromises that democracy requires. As our generals have said, the war cannot be won militarily. It must be won politically. No American soldier should be sacrificed because Iraqi politicians refuse to resolve their ethnic and political differences. (CONTINUED)

Where IS this civil war I keep hearing about?

It's like they keep thinking that if they repeat it often enough it'll come true.

Doesn't this line tell you just how poor a candidate Kerry was for the democrats.

John F. Kerry, a senator from Massachusetts, was the Democratic nominee for president in 2004.

I mean when the NY Times has to identify him in this way, the irony is absolutely palpable.

Regards,

TS

Kerry just can't shut up. Traitor Kerry strikes again.

Excerpts from editorial by Kerry:

"Half of the service members listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall died after America's leaders knew our strategy would not work. It was immoral then and it would be immoral now to engage in the same delusion.

As our generals have said, the war cannot be won militarily. It must be won politically. No American soldier should be sacrificed because Iraqi politicians refuse to resolve their ethnic and political differences."

I VOW to the 58,000 + Brothers and Sisters on
The Viet Nam Wall who never came home
and to those who died at home from injuries and
from broken hearts.

"I will do everything I LEGALLY can
to expose Hanoi Kerry once and for all.

I will not tire, I will not falter,
and I will not fail.

I solemnly vow to do all I can to restore your honor
until I give my last breath on earth."

I spent 3yrs on a destroyer in the Navy from
'66-'69 as a Gunners Mate, GMG3.
USS CORRY DD 817 '68-'69 Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club Member.
USS CORRY DD 817
Home port was Norfolk Virginia
and sailed with her in the North Atlantic,
Caribbean,(dealt with Cuban gunboats off of Havana in Jan '68)
thru the Panama Canal, across the Pacific to Viet Nam and back.

I was there the same time Kerry was.
I was there Oct'68-Apr'69 on the destroyer USS Corry DD-817
which sometime supplied PCF's and PBR's
and provided gunfire and gunfire support
in North AND South Viet Nam.

My ship may have even supplied
Kerry's boat in the Mekong Delta

Although there are many similarities between naval gunfire support
and Operation Sea Dragon (which ended Nov '68), they differ in two important areas:
naval gunfire support is normally fired at the request of troops ashore,
while Sea Dragon's mission is the interdiction of supplies and destruction
of military targets; and naval gunfire support is always conducted in South Vietnam,
while Sea Dragon missions are fired only above the demilitarized zone.

29 US Navy ships received gunfire from Viet Cong shore batteries.
My ship DID NOT get hit by the VC.

In Feb '69 my ship was part of Operation Bold Mariner
which was the largest amphibious assault since Korea.

This is EXACTLY what I used to do as a Gunner's Mate 3rd class.
DoughtyOne found this top pic from another ship.
The bottom pic is the ship I served on.

I just saw who wrote it when I got to the end. Yes, there is difficulty there, and anybody who knew about the ethnic differences knew that going in.

Iraqi politicians refuse to resolve their ethnic and political differences.

We can't even do that here. But it's only the gangs that are having a civil war here.

We have to stay there to keep the factions apart until their government gets strong enough to hold its own if it can. We'd better hope and work for that rather than whine, cut, and run - AGAIN!

Pulling out would result in a terrible blood bath that could spill over into neighboring countries like it did in Cambodia.

Before we even think about exiting, we should be prepared to partition the place instead of leaving them on their own. They deserve our help. Just like Vietnam, we can't play real hardball over there. The libs just couldn't take it. In the end more lives might be saved if we got really ugly with the areas that are producing the insurgents.

As to producing terrorists, that was inevitable sooner or later whether we went in there or not.

Oui, c'est vrai. On another subject, every time I see your screenname, I focus in on the "tomato" part of it and I taste spaghetti. Seriously. Is that weird?

Yes, eventually, he will pass away.

It will be a red letter day on my calendar when he does. Perhaps a Christmas in Cambodia service would be appropriate.

"Where IS this civil war I keep hearing about? It's like they keep thinking that if they repeat it often enough it'll come true."

It worked for WMDs, global warming, Clinton's impeachment, and the Tet Offensive--why not try lying again, with that sort of success record?

The reason Kerry's not President, of course, is that even though they accept the lies in the history books, Americans know better about all those things. They're just tired of arguing about `em with idiot leftists, and resent the people who impose them as fact.

Gosh, I just love the latest "Progressive" catch-phrases--
*gasp* "culture of corruption!"
*shriek* "global warming!"
and now the trifecta
*horrors* "ESCALATING CIVIL WAR!!!!"

These people are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, as my father used to say...whenever I hear these phrases, it sets of my lib radar and I realize I'm wasting my time listening. Works for writing too. :-)

Guess it would make a good drinking game, though--
although someone could do some serious liver damage the way these phrases are tossed about by the libs!
