It's lunchtime at Shelbyville High School, 30 miles southeast of Indianapolis, Indiana, and more than 100 teenagers are buzzing over trays in the cafeteria. Like high schoolers everywhere, they have arranged themselves by type: jocks, preps, cheerleaders, dorks, punks and gamers, all with tables of their own. Shawn Sturgill, 18, had a clique of his own at Shelbyville High, a dozen or so friends who sat at the same long bench in the hallway outside the cafeteria. They were, Shawn says, an average crowd. These days the bench is mostly empty. Of his dozen friends, Shawn says just one or two are still at Shelbyville High.

this was bound to happen. instead of teaching morals, religion and science, our schools have become mating grounds.

The article says the dropout rate has been approximately 30% for two decades.

Send them to a private school. Do the research beforehand. Find out the stats, meet the teachers, find what morals they teach, talk to the students. Its an investment. Unless you want your kids asking for money your whole life (and not being able to take care of you when you are unmable to work..and lets face it, no one likes social security).

Afterward, encourage them to join the military to help pay for college. Coast Guard, Marines, Army..you know better than anyone which branch they'd fit right into.

Want to keep more kids in school?

1. Stop paying kids to have babies and be able to get on the public dole for life. Have a baby then you have to pay to feed it, cloth it, house it and take care of it medically.

2. Change the schools back to a place of learning not the hang out place that they are now. Get rid of inflated grades. You flunk then you get an F.

3. Fire the teaches who know less about the subject and text book than the kids do.

Get your kids into a school that doesn't have to take the degenerates along with the good kids ie a private school. If you must use a public school, push like hell to get your kids into honors/advanced placement classes.

It is the parents who don't care - too busy working and not involved with their kids. It's the curriculum and the CONTENT of what TEACHERS indoctrinate them with that leaves them with HUGE egos but NO knowledge. It is the LACK of DISCIPLINE in schools that allow for kids to keep pushing the envelope to their own demise and other kids having to TOLERATE the wasting of THEIR TIME. It's about teachers that would rather MOLEST their students than teach them anything worthwhile. It's about the CONSTANT LOWERING of STANDARDS for all kids in public schools.

Your best bet is to HOMESCHOOL or put them in a PRIVATE school that is CONSERVTIVE - that is IF you really care about your kids.

By definition, half of high school students have IQs below the nationwide median 98 [in the particular schools it is, of course, depending on the student body composition. With the predominance of the East Asians, midpoint goes to about 106, with Ashkenazi Jews to 112-113]. Cutoff point for the lowest 1/3 is about 87-90 nationwide. Below IQ 85 the question of educability becomes significant.

I USED to think that would be the answer ... I no longer do.

It's WHAT they indoctrinate kids with that is the problem. The agenda or curriculum is too LEFTIST. All this program accomplishes is brighter kids being indoctrinated faster with better results.

That's a great point. Kids have no boundaries, no expectations.
These kids need to be challenged and encouraged and held to higher standards. We reap what we sow.

Private schools are great but they are very expensive. I would guess that most families cannot begin to afford the tuition, especially if they have more than one child. We have 3 kids in Catholic school and pay over 25,000 in tuition. It is a huge sacrifice that I hope will be worth it. If we were not able to afford it, I would volunteer as much as possible at the public school. It provides a lot of information that can help your kids get a good education and avoid many of the potential problems.

The best solution is to get the government completely out of the equation and let schools compete. Bust the teachers' union and make education completely free-market. Cut taxes so people can afford to send their kids to the best schools possible.

Since communism IS socialism and all of URP, Canada, Russia, China, and a good many other places are totally socialist enclaves in one form or another.. Socialism has been bought hook line and sinker.. The entire democrat party and part of the republican party is/are socialists..

Pretty good for a myth.. the myth has been bought as fact.. and there are few to say Socialism is slavery by government.. Worse SOME WANT to be enslaved by their government.. BIG Givernment republicans in particular..
