Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean has vowed not to get involved in the primary battle between Sen. Joe Lieberman and political upstart Ned Lamont. But his brother, James Dean, has already endorsed Lieberman's challenger.
"I personally think Ned is a terrific candidate and I want to support him," Dean's brother said at a Connecticut fundraiser last month. "I think not only is it a good race for the voters because he's bringing the war back [as an issue], I think his campaign will benefit candidates up and down the Democratic ticket."
Dean's brother is now chairman of Democracy for America, the political action committee that then-presidential frontrunner Howard Dean created in 2004.
The New York Times reports that James Dean is "roiling Connecticut's Democratic establishment by working to deny the party's nomination to Mr. Lieberman," a development that undoubtedly had something to do with Lieberman's announcement on Monday that he'd consider running as an Independent.
"I'm not foreclosing the option," Lieberman told reporters, before explaining that he still hoped to win his party's endorsement.
That seems unlikely, however, at least if Chairman Dean's brother has anything to say about it.
In fact, the James Dean-Lieberman feud goes back to at least last December, when the former VP candidate warned Democrats that President Bush will be "commander-in-chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril."
The comments prompted James Dean to erupt:
"If Senator Lieberman wants to be a cheerleader for President Bush that is his own prerogative, but to try and stifle an honest debate about an issue as important as the war in Iraq is just unconscionable."
The Dean sibling complained on the DFA web site: "The people of Connecticut and the nation deserve better from a member of the world's greatest deliberative body."
Rebel without a clue.
I was thinking more David Essex than the Righteous Brothers...
Joe sold his soul to ALGORE then pissed off the DEMS trying to get it back. I would feel bad for him if he did not sell out to ALGORE.
Quick! Get the chlorine!!
Another hole for moonbats to throw their money down.
Suckers.
Another Dean.
Gotta love it!
James Dean?? I thought Dean's brother was some com-symp who got offed by the VC. Guess he has a brother who made some movies in the 50's, too.
The Dean brothers appear to be two pea's in a pod, Both dipsticks.
Lieberman should switch parties.
AAAARRRRRRggggggrrraaaahhhh!!!!!
Well, Lieberman shifting parties would give McCain someone to talk to...
ARRGH!
Lieberman has a higher Conservative Rating than McCain,LOL!
"And they both came from good families!"
Let's not glorify Joe Lieberman. If he were a Republican, we'd hate him more than John McCain, because frankly he's more liberal. Name one issue on which Lieberman isn't more liberal than McCain.
The left wants to imperil our nation and our troops.
