To: The Ghost of FReepers Past

Well, I don't agree with his "anyone but.." position, yet I still defend his right to make the statement anywhere he pleases.


That surprises me that you would say that only because do we want dems to have free reign to say whatever they want anywhere they want. Right now, it is close, but at least we stop it somewhat.

Why ever would we not want them to? What about the First Amendment? The most important speech to protect in this form of government is political speech.

That said, lies should be exposed (more speech) and slander should be prosecuted. And Big Media should be widely criticized for being so dishonest and partisan (praise Democrats, attack Republicans). If they want to be partisan they should have to follow the ridiculous rules all the other political organizations have to follow. Maybe then they would finally understand why campaign finance laws should be repealed. They are the champions of the "speech for me but not for thee" ethic.

Our system of government only works if everyone has the same political speech rights. Special rights for newspaper owners is not how it's supposed to work.
