Warsaw Pact attack plans revealed

In the advent of war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact countries, 450,000 Polish troops were to have attacked northern Europe, according to top secret Warsaw Pact files made public in Poland.

Krysia Kolosowska reports

13.04.06

Poland’s defense ministry has handed 1,145 files about the Warsaw Pact to the Institute of National Remembrance, a body investigating Nazi and communist era crimes against the Polish nation.

One of the documents lays down details of the Warsaw Pact troops attack on NATO member states. Moving in fast strides, Polish troops were expected to occupy Denmark within three days. The use of about 200 short-range nuclear warheads was envisaged. Some 30 to 40 percent of the troops were expected to be killed or injured. These estimates did not include losses due to radiation whereas Polish army soldiers were to enter the field right after a nuclear attack.

Artur Golawski from the Polska Zbrojna military magazine, points out that the Warsaw Pact, ostensibly called a defensive organization of the Soviet-led bloc, had mainly aggressive plans in its secret files.

The Warsaw Pact was established in 1955. Led by Moscow, it grouped Poland, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary and Romania. The Pact was dissolved in 1991.

I still believe there's no way the Polish armed forces would have fought for the Soviets. They would have overthrown the communists and joined the west.

Some of them might have fought . . . but because their officers would shoot them otherwise.

Those officers wouldn't have stood a chance.

Very probable - as far as ordinary soldiers are concerned.

But the generals of that time? They were communist scumbags.

Did you know, for example, that - according to those plans, that have just been revealed - "Polish" command predicted about 40% losses in "living" power as a result of that attack.
Which means, that "Polish" generals accepted, that 80.000 of young Poles would have died because of Soviet imperial ambitions.

And those were supposed to be only those killed in combat.

Who knows how many more would have died of radiation - as Polish troops were supposed to enter the Northern Europe just after nuclear attack.

Of course what the Soviets would have done to Poland in such an event is what really would have been scary.

Most likely, the Soviets would have to send tanks to crush the rebellion.

given the Socialist political climate in most of the EU, the Soviets shouldn't have wasted a dime.

Just dismantled 70% of their military and waited for the events of present time.

Then the USSR and the EUSR could have forged a common defense treaty against the imperialist Americans.

Don't 40% of today's Germans believe that America is the biggest threat to Global peace?

That's nothing new.

But that would have been a diversion from their attacks in the west. It would have put any such Soviet attempt at invasion in peril.

Don't be so sure, most of generals were trashes and conscripts were extremely indoctrinated.

What was the supposed quote of a Polish General during the 80's (when Poland was still part of the Warsaw Pac.) when asked if war broke out and he found himself between NATO troops in front of him and Russian troops behind him which way would he attack?...

His supposed reply was of course he would attack forward first because business before pleasure

. . . The use of about 200 short-range nuclear warheads was envisaged.

No, this cannot be right. Haven't you heard? The peace-loving Soviet people would never have attacked the West; nor would they have contemplated the use of nuclear weapons. The reporter must have been thinking of that evil warmonger, Ronald Reagan.
