The four teenaged punks who chased an NYU student into the path of an oncoming car looked and laughed as he lay on the street dying, a prosecutor revealed yesterday. "They didn't call for an ambulance. They didn't call for help. Rather, they stood on the street corner and laughed," prosecutor Joel Seidemann said of the 13- and 15-year-olds who chased Broderick John Hehman into traffic.
Hehman, 20, died four days later from his massive head injuries.
And the wolf-pack thugs, who allegedly laid in wait for their victim, could have even more to smile about now. Prosecutors lost their bid to try the teens as adults yesterday when their cases were transferred to Manhattan Family Court - where they face about half as much time behind bars if convicted of the top charge against them, felony murder.
Had they been tried as adults, the 15-year-olds would have faced nine years to life behind bars. Now, they face a maximum of five years in "restrictive placement," said Laurence Busching, head of the city Law Department's family court division.
If they're convicted of the lesser charges against them, including manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide, they could get off with as little as 18 months in juvenile detention.

Yes, they were black and he was a white do-gooder student (in social work or something similar). He had stopped to give some money to a beggar in a wheelchair outside a Popeye's on 125th and Park where these lovely yutes were smoking dope and hanging out.

The race of the punks and the race of the victim make no difference. Punks are punks. Evil is evil. I am thrilled when "conservative" sources don't mention race because frankly, that is the point.
I hope that within my lifetime the only designation you see in the paper is "punks" and "decent people" period. Actions matter. Size and style don't.

I agree that race shouldn't matter. By the same token, I know from experience that the New York Post, Daily News , and New York Times would have emphasized the race issue if it was white on black crime. They love to play that up, and it is usually a good fund raiser for Jesse Jackson and Sharpton.
Why the heck is this the only thing about them that has grabbed your curiosity? They're punks. Mean little punks. What the hell does their race change about that?
I'm serious... whenever there's some story like this there's always these wink-wink nudge-nudge comments about race as if it somehow boosts your ego a little if crap like this is only committed by ~them~.

When this story was originally reported the perps wer shouting "Get Whitey" as they chased the victim into the street. Following the arrest, the NYPD were quick to announce that this was simply a robbery with no racial overtones (no hate crime here). To the NY Post's credit, they did run an editorial questioning the lack of hate crime pursuit. Now we read that the perps are going to be treated as juveniles. Your tax dollars at work.
Are you just as "thrilled" that the race of the so called "victim" was mentioned as well as the race of those Duke U. lacrosse players who without a shred of evidence from ALL "sources" are also called "punks"?
This story makes a "difference" because it again proves a double standard by the media exists for 'minority'-on-white crime vs. "white-on-'minority'" crime.
