"Are migrant workers a threat or boost to Ireland?"

Well, It all depends...

First; Did they come there LEGALLY?

Do they embrace the culture, language and traditions of Ireland and want to assimilate?

If so, then they are probably not a threat.

Or are they there to merely grab the goodies, demanding the rights of full citizens? Do they wish to replace the Irish culture with their own failed culture or even worse, do intentional harm to the Government and People of Ireland?....

Are they islamofascist terrorists or muslim terrorist sympathizers?

If so, like so many other 'migrant workers' they ARE a threat.

If they let Turkey into the EU, that answer changes completely. With the economy Ireland has right now and their small population, their borders would be completely swamped and their culture decimated in very short order.

you may be onto something there. Poles (a very large portion of the foreign workers in Ireland are Polish) have religious and cultural similarities with Irish, however Turks don't have many of these similarities.

I think a strong economy helps integration, at least in the shortterm. But Ireland needs to be sure to help these newcomers become Irish not the "Polish in Ireland" or "the Estonians in Ireland" or heaven forbid the "French in Ireland".

Are migrant workers a threat or boost to Ireland?

Poles, Czechs and Baltics = boost to Ireland.

Muslims = threat to Ireland.
