I wonder if they gave party ID in the poll.

"Menendez is a Cubano. To accuse his family of being illegals isn't accurate. Cubans enjoy lenient asylum laws not afforded to other immigrants. This has made some La-Raza folks resentful of the Cuban Exiles in Miami."
I'm sure CF did not imply that Menendez's family was illegal or anything of the sort, but that he merely pointed out that the recent immigration protests have brought about a backlash against liberal Democrats, and particularly Hispanic liberal Democrats. I don't know if CF is correct about the immigration protests being the main factor swinging the polls a bit towards Kean, but it might be one of several factors.
BTW, while you are correct that refugees from Castro's regime get automatic asylum once they reach our shores, Menendez's parents emigrated from Cuba to New York over a decade before Castro took power (Senator Menendez was born in NY in 1950 or so), so they did not have the benefit of the preferential policy. I'm pretty sure his parents emigrated legally, though.

Having a name like Menedez is just not where you want to be... But it could cut both ways. A Hispanic candidate taking a tough on illegals stance could actually gain in this atmosphere.
Anybody know where CO-5 (R) candidate Lionel Rivera stands on illegals? (Hefley's current seat---he's retiring)

They are, but trust me, that's not what you're going to hear from the fifth column, treasonous, pom pom wavers in the media.
These are the same dirtbags that said Chris Simcox taking over a third of the vote in an open primary demonstrated how little traction immigration issues had with the American public.

Sure, but the Dems and the MSM would NEVER allow anything more than lip service.
But now I'm starting to wonder if this whole amnesty debate was a grand scheme by Karl Rove (Rooooovvvvvvveeeee, as Rush would say), to flush out the Dems on the issue, and get Iraq off the front pages. Sure, let Bush's numbers dive, but who cares, he ain't running again. What's critical is the Congressional races, and the Reps are starting to move big-time (as in here) - as the Reps can finally distance themselves from the Prez without looking like they're pandering. This may go down as one of the most ingenious political moves in history - and the Mexican flags didn't do the Dems any favors either.

If I am told not to believe Bush's bad poll numbers...I can't then turn around and believe these...
However, I can WISH they are true....

Ppl can rag all they want about RINOs. Here in NJ, just getting a GOP win for US Senate would be a big accomplishment and a step in the right direction.

"Are there still Republicans in New Jersey?"
Many of us, who were in the position to do so, have already left. The rest are struggling between reaching retirement age and having to hand in there until what is going to be a true "over the top" tax increase that will set a new standard of outrageousness in NJ.
Mark these words....the worst is still to come in NJ. May God help 'em.
To: Clintonfatigued
Oh dear. My optimism is tempered by the fact that most people think Kean is his father and Menendez has 4x the cash.
To: MikefromOhio
I'm seriously wondering if the play Schumer made over the Ports Deal was a way to get people to think Democrat when it came to national security.
///////////////////////////////////////////////
Of course it was. And the speeches at the illegals coming out party were designed to get the Hispanic vote. However, there is no " Hispanic" vote. There are many cultural groups defined loosely as Latin, but they do not like each other and don't vote or think alike. Its like trying to say the "European" vote. there is no such thing. What Americans saw during the marches was a threat to American sovereignty and the liberal dems pandering to it. This will not score well with voters. It will increase turnout, and will pull traditional old school dems and independents to republican candidates,. Especially if the republicans take a strong "close the boarders stance on this issue>
To: Clintonfatigued
while this is nice, how many times has the GOP been competitive in NJ this far out only to lose big on election day?
To: georgia2006
Good point. But while previous GOP candidates were competitive, none were actually leading. Also, the new Governor is not very popular and Robert Menendez can easily be tied to him.
To: MikefromOhio
wow that went up quickly.... I wonder which ringer the Dems have in score for the 2nd week in October....
LOL
