WASHINGTON, April 20 The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday that "no sound scientific studies" supported the medical use of marijuana, contradicting a 1999 review by a panel of highly regarded scientists. The announcement inserts the health agency into yet another fierce political fight. Susan Bro, an agency spokeswoman, said Thursday's statement resulted from a past combined review by federal drug enforcement, regulatory and research agencies that concluded "smoked marijuana has no currently accepted or proven medical use in the United States and is not an approved medical treatment."

Dope smoking maggot infested pothead ping
I just don't understand how they can say that. I've seen many chemo patients benefit from it.
Whoah dude.... bummer man!
LOL...
Who are ya gonna believe, the gov't or your own lying eyes?
There is a benefit...but they forgot what it was...
Wow...so you don't like people that smoke weed?
Not suprised. There are plenty of proven and safe pain alleviators that can be used just as effectively.
It is crucial that Cannabis remain illegal.
" Whoah dude.... bummer man! "
Uhhhhhh........what ?
Like wow man, like we can`t do spiffs anymore? Uhhhhh, but we fought for medical pot for a reason man, like you know, so we can smoke up all the time......uhhhhhh man.
Yeah, well it increases the Nacho and Cheese industry sales big time. There was something else too, but I can't remember.
ROFL
Seriously tho, my Uncle passed away 10 years ago of the dozen complications from aids and he told me his only way to eat something was to smoke. If not, he couldn't eat.
I told him to smoke'em if he has them. No shame in that.
Perhaps they don't consider relief from extreme nausea caused by chemotherapy to be a "medical use?" Rather shortsided if so.
There's a simple explanation: MONEY!! The pharmaceutical companies have the government in their pocket, so of course the FDA (a govt. agency) won't go against current policy. There could have been warehouses of research proving that MJ was effective as a drug, it wouldn't have mattered one bit.
I agree. I knew 3 or more who had cancer and chemo that benefitted (sp?). Helped them keep an appetite and hold down food.
The FDA is now a political advocacy group.
Exactly. It DOES work for chemo/AIDS patients so I don't understand the denying of that fact.
It sounds like the DEA is fighting for budget dollars to me. I find that one statement in this article rather odd.
Yup, gotta keep dem black jazz musicians from havin' sex wit da white women ...
"It is crucial that Cannabis remain illegal."
