FOB KALSU, Iraq (Army News Service, April 21, 2006) – As Soldiers from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, fight terrorists and help the Iraqi army protect its country, Soldiers from Company A, 204th Support Battalion, 2nd BCT, silently creep through the streets of Iraq re-supplying Soldiers in the fight.

New supply shipments arrive daily at Forward Operating Base Duke, where they are processed and distributed by the Soldiers of Co. A, 204th Spt. Bn.

“Everything from food, water and office supplies to oil, wood and serviceable parts are sent on logistical packages to each base in the 2nd BCT area of operations,” said Sgt. Pretoria Johnson, automated logistical specialist.

Each day the unit receives roughly 46 pallets measuring around 108 feet by 108 feet. Surplus items are placed in storage so they’re ready when units request them.

“Our supply trips enable units to continue the fight. Our main mission is to get a LOGPAC from point A to point B as safely as possible,” said Pfc. Joseph Teutsch.

Missions start early each morning, four hours before departure, as Soldiers perform vehicle and weapons maintenance. Supplies and equipment are also inspected as Soldiers tie them down to prevent drops or damage.

Preparations end with a 30- to 45-minute safety briefing and a recap on reaction procedures to enemy fire.

After the LOGPAC arrives at its destination, Soldiers download the equipment and supplies, then upload unserviceable parts being returned.

“Doing a convoy is a dangerous job, but someone has to do it,” said Teutsch.

(Editor's note: Pfc. Edgar Reyes writes for the 4th Infantry Division.)

Face the enemy down the barrel of your rifle, or deliver lunch? I'd prefer the first option. These drivers are very brave indeed.
