Hispanic Paper--Help Wanted

Posted on 05/03/2006 4:03:32 AM PDT by Jon Alvarez

From: "CNY Latino - Hugo" To: "Jon Alvarez" Subject: Pidiendo ayuda, por favor... Date: Tue, 2 May 2006 13:42:43 -0400

Hi:

I have prepared this generic note, to selected people that have frequent communication with my monthly “bilingual” publication, and that also I think they might have influences and/or connections with business owners, key people in large organizations, distinguished people, or simply know "somebody" that could help us keep the CNY Latino newspaper alive...

We are going through some financial difficulties; advertisement (the ONLY source of income for this publication) has been very low for the last four months (4 mos.), and as a single parent, it is very difficult for me to keep providing capital from my personal bank account, to maintain and keep producing this publication. I tried to contact some of the "big guys" (McDonald's, Wal-Mart, Taco Bell, Verizon, etc.), but most of them rejected my advertisement proposals, because we were either to small (some of their marketing specifications demand to advertise in publications with a minimum coverage of 12,000 or 15,000 copies per month), or because our production frequency is "monthly" (many corporations - like Banks, Cable companies, and Car manufacturers only concentrate with "weekly" or "daily" periodicals ).

I would love very much to increase our actual production (currently at 8,000 monthly copies) and make our monthly “bilingual” publication into a "weekly" one, but I need capital in both scenarios, which means more (promised) advertisement. I also think that it will help us to expand our present distribution coverage (now distributed between Auburn to Rome-Utica and Oswego to Cortland, including Ithaca, Clay, Liverpool, and -of course- Syracuse) to a wider geographical area (maybe all the way to Buffalo, Albany, Watertown, and Binghamton), making the sale approach to potential advertisers, more attractive.

I am hoping you could refer me to somebody that could help us obtaining more advertisement, or recommend our Hispanic periodical, to an organization of business, that might either be interested to advertise in our monthly “bilingual” publication, or (at least) help us with some source of financial contribution. Of course, any other suggestion from you will be greatly appreciated...

I apologize if I am bothering you with this request, and at the same time, I appreciate any consideration to help us, and of course, any actual referral you can provide to us.

Muchas Gracias;

Hugo

Irony...huh? Let's say the author seeking assistance from this AMERICAN did not appreciate the reply back. Perhaps the organizers of the protests can give him some help? I hope he doesn't hold his breath, LOL.

I don't understand your hostility. A man running a business is having trouble, he's looking for help.

He's not looking for government assistance (at least not in this letter).
He's looking for advertisers and customers.

What's the problem?

Let him sink or swim, just like the rest of us.

"...some financial difficulties; advertisement (the ONLY source of income for this publication) has been very low for the last four months (4 mos.)..."

Hey, Hugo: it's going to get worse — much worse — for you. We "Gringos" have had it with your hate-America demonstrations. Pack your gear and head back south.

Perhaps an opportunity for NYC conservatives to move in and sell conservative products - books, think tanks, political candidates.

And once conservatives dominate the advertising, the editorial content can be influenced by threatening to pull ads.

I don't understand your hostility.

Probably the suspicion of the kind of articles liable to appear in his hispanic periodical. Wouldn't that be your first guess?

Well, if he's read the paper and made that judgement, fine. Lay it out and make a case.

I'm not willing to assume anything about the "kind of articles liable to appear in his hispanic periodical", just because the guy's Hispanic.

Good to see you online again.

Is there an online source, the link seemed more of a commercial?

Man, no kidding. "What's" with all the random "quotes" in the "e-mail"?

Is he quoting from another e-mail...?

Well, the second guess, the position I hold, is that we just don't want a hispanic periodical at all, at any time, for any reason, under any management, ever. Kinda moots the "struggling businessman" appeal.
