Democrats wrong to oppose leader of energy commission (appointed by Schwarzenegger)

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's pick to chair the California Energy Commission is about to find himself out of a job. Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata has said he will not hold a confirmation hearing for Joe Desmond, who has served in that role for a year. Without confirmation, Desmond will be forced to step down by next week.

Desmond drew the ire of Democrats and environmentalists on a number of fronts. He has pushed for the multibillion-dollar Frontier Line, a transmission system currently being studied that would connect California with Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. The Schwarzenegger administration sees the line as necessary to meet the state's growing energy needs.

But Democrats oppose it because they fear it will lead to construction of new coal-fired power plants in other states, increasing pollution and emissions of heat-trapping gases that contribute to global warming. The fears are legitimate, and they point to an inherent policy dilemma for a governor who is trying to tackle global warming while keeping the lights on in a state whose appetite for power is growing in parallel with its soaring population.

Now you can see why Arnold can't appoint all Republicans -- the Dems are refusing to confirm even people who are just sensible people, who understand that pushing CA back into the stone ages, that the environmentalists and Dems want to do is NOT a viable solution.

Who in there right mind would oppose the "Frontier Line" it would easily prevent outtages of any nature, and would make it easy to bypass areas where the transmission lines went down.

===

There is your clue right in your own statement -- who said the Dems are in their right mind? They WANT to destroy CA.

What global warming?

This is debunked by a recent study out of Great Britian. It ended several years ago.

BTW,there is a cold wind blowing tonight in the High Desert of So. Cal.! No warming here!!

Actually, Dems are afraid of competition for electricity that would force bill prices down, and therefore lower utility taxes.

They dont give a crap about the environment...ask them where they are going to put the used batteries for the 57,000 Priuses driving around California.
