Police Report: Kennedy Cited For 3 Traffic Violations In Wreck

POSTED: 10:25 am EDT May 5, 2006 UPDATED: 2:43 pm EDT May 5, 2006

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Patrick Kennedy was cited for three traffic violations after his early morning car crash near the Capitol, according to a police report.

The report by a U.S. Capitol Police officer said Kennedy, D-R.I., drove his green 1997 Ford Mustang convertible into a security barrier near the Capitol shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, and that Kennedy had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance.

Kennedy said in a statement he had taken a sleeping pill and another drug that can cause drowsiness, but had not been drinking alcohol before the accident. "Apparently, I was disoriented from the medication," Kennedy said. He scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m. EDT Friday in Washington.

The police report described Kennedy as "ability impaired," and listed alcohol influence as a contributing circumstance in the crash.

The fact that you're stoned on prescription drugs instead of alcohol is not normally a defense on a DUI.

Especially when at least one of the drugs you're on (Ambien) specifically says not to operate a motor vehicle after taking it.

prescription drugs just a cover, so I don't think the man is even now, being honest. He was alcohol impaired, or why else ewould he lie about being in a bar drinking.

Do you really believe that he wasn't drinking?

The report cites "alcohol influence." Another officer on-scene said that swimmer, jr. had alcohol on his breath.

"Especially when at least one of the drugs you're on (Ambien) specifically says not to operate a motor vehicle after taking it."

Pointing to the warning is missing the point. Only a moron would take a prescription sleeping pill before they drove.

This bottom-feeder Kennedy, (but I repeat myself) issued two lies:

That he was not DUI and
That he did not get preferential treatment.

Unfortunately, the first can't be proven because he was not given a blood test when it mattered.

The second certainly can be.
How many normal citizens were released without tests, had higher ranking officers of the PD show up at the incident site, and had the cops drive them home in say... the last 60 days?

I agree with you completely. Just pointing out that even the official excuse does not hold water.

I especially like the part of Kennedy claiming to have been speeding while on drugs because he mistakenly thought he needed to vote. "Even drunk or fudged up on prescription drugs, Representative Kennedy's first instinct is to serve the good people of the great state of Rhode Island!"

Laughably transparent.

He's saying he has a "disease." It's his addiction.

I wonder, if I'm stopped for DUI can I pull the same BS?

Naw....I'm a serf, not one of the Nobles in the US.

How in nether did we wind up with an aristocracy anyway?

Of course not. He was obviously hammered on his mom's and his dad's refreshment of choice.

Didn't you know??
Driving Drunk While Democrat isn't a crime, ESPECIALLY if your name is Kennedy.......

I wonder if the DNC will donate $150K to the DC prosecutor in return for investigating where his drugs came from???

So when is the 'supervisor' that directed the police officer to drive him home WITHOUT a SOBRIETY TEST going to have his press conference?

Kennedy, D-R.I., plans to seek treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

For what? Compulsive lying to police?
It's genetic, dammit! No treatment can possibly work.

What a difference the internet makes. When Ted Kennedy was granted special privileges by the local police in 1969, there was no alternate news source to investigate or question the Old Media's version of events. Now this incident is being unravelled within hours.

Substitute the words "Karl Rove" or "Tom Delay" for "Patrick Kennedy" in the news reports. Can you imagine the seismic difference in the resultant news coverage?

Kennedy will skate. No jail, a small fine and some kind of 'deferred sentence'. The reason that somebody would have taken Ambien BEFORE they were home and needed to be asleep aside, Kennedy will be charged but the entire case will be essentially scuttled because he is going into 'rehab.' And for a Kennedy, 'rehab' is just another family reunion and certainly no punishment. Boy, doesn't Cynthia McKinney wish her last name was Kennedy?????
