TOPEKA, Kan. Kansas may have seen the last of its child brides.
After a pregnant 14-year-old from Nebraska drove to Kansas last year to marry her 22-year-old boyfriend, now serving time for having sex with the minor, Kansas lawmakers decided it was time the set a minimum marriage age.
On Thursday, the Kansas House vote 119-0 to approve a bill that would prohibit anyone under the age of 15 from marrying in Kansas and would set strict limits for would-be brides or grooms under the age of 18. The Senate approved it a day earlier, 36-4.

I'm sure the ACLU is about to be all over this.
That's probably what got them into trouble in the first place.
I shouldn't ask, but I'm going to: what's the age of marriage in KY?
Does Jerry Lee Lewis know about this? Maybe it doesn't apply if you marry your cousin.
I'm sure the ACLU is hard at work looking for a same sex couple, one of whom is 13, as a test case in Kansas.
"If either partner is under 18, parental consent forms must be signed. You will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. If you are under 16 you can not marry without a court order. A minor who is pregnant does not need parental consent as long as the pregnancy is verified in a written statement by a licensed physician. Minors can not marry if parents or guardians are not residents of the state."
Sorry, but 15 is STILL too young, IMHO.
Kansas lawmakers may not be the fastest bunch in the land.
This is easy to make fun of, but I have a serious question: shouldn't the minimum age for marriage be the age of consent?
I dont know, I thought it was ok.

Why?
Both my aunts on my mother's side married at 15. Of course, they are from South Louisiana, where you're old by 18.
Well, a lot of reasons -- though they would probably be dismissed as social engineering -- such as promoting graduation from high school, the ability to hold down a full time job, ability to get a driver's license, etc. etc.
But I gotta tell ya, 15 seems awful young to get married.
I have a 14 year old granddaughter. I'd hate to think she's wise enough to consent to anything like that.

14/15 is waaay too young.
Realize at 15 they dont have the ability to consent, mom and dad have to unless they are preggers. Then, well...they have already consented.
One can always go to night schoo, get a drivers license and all the other things of adulthood when one gets there.
When I posted this, I wondered why so much attention is being made to marriage in general and same sex marriage (by some states) is treated so cavalier.
