Sen. Hillary Clinton: Abortion Is a 'Basic Right'

Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a White House hopeful who has sought the political middle on abortion, on Wednesday criticized Republicans for trying to erode access to birth control for women.

"There's a quiet war going on in America - against the most basic rights of Americans to make their own personal decisions about family planning," Clinton wrote in a mass e-mail from her re-election campaign.

The New York senator complained that the Bush administration and congressional Republicans are whittling away at contraception options, particularly for poor women who rely on government-funded programs.

The senator cited statistics showing that low-income women are having four times as many unwanted pregnancies as higher income women and half of all unwanted pregnancies end in abortions.

Republicans accused Clinton of seeking to enlarge federal programs.

"Once again, Hillary Clinton demonstrates that her top priority is increasing both the size and scope of the government," said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt.

Clinton's campaign letter asks supporters to sign a petition protesting curbs on family planning services, and also links to a donation Web page.

No Hitlery, LIFE is a basic human right, but look how that turned out for Vince Foster and Ron Brown.

If you have to get an abortion in your ninth month, it's because you didn't do any "family planning", Senator From Hell.

I thought her most recent statement with regard to abortion was that it was merely a 'tragic decision'???? Gayness is also 'natural' I'm sure. /sarc

In Hitlery's utopia, you have the right to murder your unborn children but you don't have the right to own a gun to protect your children.

Of course she's upset, she doesn't want to lose her base. Why shouldn't welfare pay poor singles to pump out babies.

Sen. Hillary Clinton: Abortion Is a 'Basic Right'

One that Hugh and Dorothy Rodham failed to exercise.

She has the same values apparently as those in Islam that believe beheadings are a right.

Birth control equals abortion?!?!?!?

What nutjob believes that? And I don't mean Hillary.

I hate her, but anyone who opposes contraception is a nutjob, in my book.

She talked about birth control. Sheesh.

It would be the biggest mistake in the world for Republicans to nominate a pro-choice candidate to "take her on" in 2008.

I guess the unborn child has no "basic rights".

"A basic right? Based upon what?"

Oh, don't worry, they'll get some Judges to find it in the Constitution. It's probably in the section with the bussing clause...

In her case it should also be a retroactive right.

...Republicans are whittling away at contraception options...

Of course she would not fight for purity outside of marriage and a love of children as a blessing from God for those married. Nooo she wouldn't abide by morals from a sovereign God - she prefers a God of her own making!

I always thought it was "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness".

Ya know, the whole 'inalienable right' thingie?

Where does killing unborn fit in there?
