Taking Rome in 1944 was an occasion for mild celebration. It was preceded by the goat rope of Anzio and the meat grinder of Cassino, which muted much triumphalist enthusiasm, and then knocked completely off the front page by the Normandy Invasion.
Having a legitimate elected government in Iraq is a victory long in coming. It doesn't win the war, but it helps.
