Before I joined the Army way back when, I never understood the meaning of Taps. Now, after being in a war, I do.
Going to the Wall in D.C. also brings tears to my eyes. That place is sacred ground.

I saw the moving wall when it came to town. I was depressed for days afterward.
Some day I want to go to Washington and see The Wall and the WWII memorial.

My first time I saw the "Wall" was with a man I worked with. He was a Nam combat vet, me a non-combat vet. One of his assignments, once his tour was complete was to escort the caskets to the families...
Need I say more about being at the "Wall"
When in DC, see all the war memorials, the Korean Memorial is very impressive.

I'm happy to hear you "get it".Welcome home! And thank you for the kind words about The Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It is a SACRED place to me.
I like to paraphrase a quote I believe originated in the Civil War---"So some of us went over to Vietnam, and a lot of us didn't return.....and if you werent there, you'll never understand."
I'm sure you Gulf War & G.W.O.T. Veterans "understand"
