KY: High School Prayer Axed After Muslim Complaint

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

SHELBYVILLE - The principal of Shelby County High School said the school will not have formal prayer at graduation exercises next month after receiving a complaint from a student and the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky.

Principal Gary Kidwell met Monday with the Board of Education and a lawyer as residents held a prayer vigil outside. Tuesday, Kidwell said the school will break from the tradition of student-led invocations and benedictions at graduation June 2.

The school "will be compliant with the law and also provide a respectful and dignified program for all students," he said.

Traditional prayers at a school banquet and an awards ceremony also will not be held, he said.

Last week, a court ordered a Russell County High School student who had been designated to pray at graduation not to do so. Students rose on their own and recited the Lord's Prayer during the principal's remarks. The student who had been designated to lead the prayer included religious messages in her remarks to graduates.

Arshiya Saiyed, 17, who is Muslim, identified herself Tuesday as the Shelby County student who filed the ACLU complaint. She said other students share her view, a contention echoed by Kidwell.

Arshiya said she understands that student speakers at Shelby County also might include a prayer in their remarks, but she hopes they will respect her objections to the formal prayer.

Drove past the E'town "mosque" this afternoon. Must have been close to 50 cars there and most of them were Mercedes Benz or Beemers.

I wonder if prayers offered to the graduating class from admirers could be read? Hmmmm? ;)

I did know about the piracy. As a matter of fact, I read an article on the subject a few days ago, but forgot Jefferson was involved. I do recall reading this, which really just proves my point: (Hat tip to Hugh Fitzgerald's research and article on Jihad Watch)

snippets:

"Islam was merely a disturbing and violent intruder, to south and east, of that West. The notion that someday Muslims in the Western world would be insisting that the Western world owed so much to Islam, that the Renaissance was practically a Muslim invention, that without Islam the great civilization of the Western world was unthinkable, would have been regarded by them as what it is: absurdity, from first to last, a travesty of history.

"So they asked the ambassador, Mr. Adja, why the Muslims of the Maghrib, the “Barbary pirates” as they were known in the West, did as they did.

"He had no trouble answering them, as the report written by Jefferson and Adams to the Continental Congress shows:

"“…that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”"

"And this was John Quincy Adams on Islam:

“Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST; TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE (Capitals in original)...Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. The war is yet flagrant...While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men.”

"And Adams concluded:

“As the essential principle of his [Muhammad’s] faith is the subjugation of others by the sword; it is only by force, that his false doctrines can be dispelled, and his power annihilated.”

*The teachings of Muhammad are anti-American and in my opinion, unconstitutional.

The use of racial epithets on this site is forbidden. It shows the poster has a small mind.

You are an idiot. How's that for politically incorrect?

"The entire school should ignore the judge, the ACLU and the student."

"What are they going to do? Put them all in jail? So what? Its "civil disobedience" - remember that one? We acts of "civil disobedience" to idiotic Court edicts - just as was one back in the segregation days."

"Only such actions will save the America we once knew and put a stop to these maniacal judges."

You're right. It was how the early Church transformed the culture of that time. Unfortunately, it will take the mindset of the early Church, who were ready and willing to risk everything.

Is this happening in American culture today? A little bit. A whole heck of a lot at Free Republic. It's still going to take a little bit more of this lunacy for the Christian majority to finally grasp the very real threat of this and rebel against this evil in the manner you described. But it is possible. It really is.

"Unfortunately, it will take the mindset of the early Church, who were ready and willing to risk everything."

The use of the word "unfortunately" is more astute than you know. I don't know if the split between liberal and conservative Christians will be able to sustain a new Crusade - and you and I know that the Muslims are counting on that.

<< High School Prayer Axed After muslim Complaint

AX THE MUSLIMS >>

islam is incompatible with Judeo-Christian/Western/Human Civilization.

A fact to which we will either all awaken -- or in ignorance of which we will all die.

And this week -- by adding his welcoming of Libya back into the company of civilized nations to his having failed in his responsibility to protect America against invasion, his having recently watched Egypt abrogate elections, having ignored the collapse of the so-called Cedar Revolution in Lebanon and having abandoned imprisoned Chinese dissidents in favor of "free" trade, to his presently mulling a peace treaty with Stalinist North Korea and to his insistance the death cult called "islam" is a "religion" of peace -- Mr George Walker Bush terminated his own Doctrine.

God save our beloved FRaternal Republic.

To borrow from the "Untouchables", what are we prepared to do?
Civil disobedience works for minorities. It works even better for majorities. If we don't stand up to the Muslims when they are such a tiny minority, how could we blame France which has a much greater of its population muslim?

Every time they threaten our freedom to practice our religion, we should do it twice as hard. If they prevent prayer at graduation, students should say the prayer and shame these bastards by name, as well as explain to them our freedom to practice our religion. That'll make the Muslims and ACLU think twice about suing again.

Rather ironic, isn't?

Usually it is the atheists and the reform "Jews" who ban commencement prayers.

Thanks for the laugh. Of course the Latin is "debitas" and "Debitoribus", so they probably have it right.
