Bastogne Soldiers save terrorist's life
MNF-I Official Release ^ | 24 May 2006 | unk

KIRKUK, Iraq – Bastogne Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division saved the life of an insurgent near Kirkuk, Iraq , May 23 after the grenade the insurgent threw exploded on him, causing severe injuries to his lower extremities.

Iraqi soldiers were manning their post in Hawijah, a city just west of Kirkuk , when a man approached and tossed a grenade at their position. The grenade bounced off the roof of the structure the soldiers were in, falling back to the ground and exploding, severely cutting and burning the man.

Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, responding to the original call from the Iraqi soldiers, arrived on the scene just after the grenade exploded and provided first aid to the terrorist. Once stabilized, the man was taken to the U.S. military compound in Kirkuk for further treatment of his injuries.

Bastogne Soldiers have been fighting alongside and training the Iraqi Army since October 2005. Iraqi Security Forces in and around Kirkuk continue to gain confidence in their abilities, and are taking on more responsibility for security in the region.

I think I would have left him there to die. One less to worry about.

When asked for a comment on this story Congressman Murtha replied; "It's all a SNOWE/BUSH/ROVE/RUMSFELD fabrication to damage his reputation." Sen. Kennedy who was standing nearby leaned over to state; "I was in Vietnam too!" < / quantum sarcasm

Obviously we can kill 'em, but we can also offer assistance when needed. Although why we would...

"Although why we would..."

The only reason I can imagine is because we are better than they are?

One can only imagine the thoughts running through the terrorist's mind as the grenade came bouncing back at him. There can be justice in this life...

Because we're Americans. It's that simple.

Exactly. See my post #10. Because we are better, and above the whole "kill everyone, including the children" mentality.

I think the soldiers did right, too! Great job!

I would hope that suicide bombers whose lives are saved have a change of heart and put the word out about who is saving lives and property in Iraq and who is really bent on mayhem and destruction.

If they don't have a change of heart, could be they figure Allah spared them for another crack at those virgins.

Hopefully, they'll be able to get some good info from him.

Don't expect this video to appear on Ogrish.

Think of it this way--good training for the medics and doctors on real world casualty treatment.

I don't belong in the military.

I would have plugged him to make sure the job was finished.

Whatever happened to the simple way we did things in the olde days? Back when soldiers killed people and broke things...

This creep should have been used for bayonet practice.
